Details of the Red Crescent's plan in Medina for the Hajj season

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority announced the launch of plan in Madinah for the 1447 AH Hajj season, covering the entire region. This proactive step comes as part of early and intensive preparations to enhance the readiness of ambulance and medical services provided to pilgrims, based on carefully planned and integrated operational strategies. The Director of the Authority's Madinah branch, Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, explained that the primary objective of this plan is to provide the highest quality emergency medical services to visitors of the Prophet's Mosque and along all roads and entry points leading to Madinah. He noted that field operations will commence at the beginning of Dhu al-Qi'dah and continue until the 15th of Muharram 1448 AH, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all stages of the pilgrims' arrival and departure.

A historical legacy in caring for the guests of God

For decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has dedicated all its resources to serving pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, and the Saudi Red Crescent is a cornerstone of this long-standing tradition. Since its inception, it has been committed to providing emergency healthcare in the holiest and most densely populated areas of Mecca and Medina. These efforts evolve year after year to keep pace with the ever-increasing number of pilgrims, transforming ambulance services from simple medical points in the past into a sophisticated healthcare system that relies on digital systems and the latest global technologies. This reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to caring for those visiting the Two Holy Mosques and providing them with a safe and healthy environment throughout their stay.

The latest technologies are included in the Red Crescent's plan in Medina

In detailing the operational plan, Al-Zahrani explained that it includes the operation of 10 operational sectors, supported by an operational force exceeding 90 ambulance units. This field force comprises 54 advanced ambulances and 27 rapid intervention teams equipped with a variety of vehicles, including motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, golf carts, and electric vehicles that facilitate access in congested areas. Specialized response vehicles have also been provided for disasters and multi-casualty incidents. All these vehicles are equipped with the latest medical equipment and technologies. The readiness extends beyond ground operations to include full preparedness for air ambulance services, which play a crucial role in supporting critical cases and transporting them urgently to specialized hospitals for necessary treatment.

Strategic dimensions and regional and international impact

The importance of these medical preparations extends far beyond the local level, carrying significant regional and international dimensions. The success of the Saudi health and ambulance system in managing millions of pilgrims within specific geographical areas reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading global model in crisis management and mass gathering medicine. Furthermore, providing this exceptional care sends a message of reassurance and peace to millions of Muslims worldwide and the families of pilgrims, assuring them that their loved ones are in safe hands and receiving the highest level of care. This high level of preparedness directly contributes to reducing mortality rates and health complications, and positively impacts regional and international health security when pilgrims return to their countries safe and sound.

Integrating efforts between human resources and smart systems

To ensure the plan's successful implementation, over 700 paramedics, technicians, and administrative staff are working seamlessly within an integrated system to guarantee rapid response and high-quality performance. The plan also relies on approximately 1,200 volunteers, both men and women, who are strategically deployed to key locations, primarily the Prophet's Mosque and its courtyards, after undergoing intensive training and qualification programs in essential first aid skills.

The region's medical evacuation center plays a pivotal role in receiving reports via the unified number (997) or through the "Is'afni" smart application. The center provides initial medical guidance to callers and electronically forwards reports to the nearest team through the "e-Paramedic" system. Patients are transported to healthcare facilities with a comprehensive electronic report provided prior to their arrival. These tremendous efforts culminate in strengthening partnerships with the private and non-profit sectors, as well as volunteer organizations, to disseminate health awareness and enhance the system's capacity to handle various emergency situations efficiently and effectively.
