Saudi aid arrives in Deir ez-Zor to assist those affected by the Euphrates floods

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support its brothers and sisters in Syria, Saudi aid was delivered in Deir ez-Zor to address urgent living challenges. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 700 food baskets yesterday to families affected by the rising water levels of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Syria, helping to alleviate the suffering of hundreds of families facing harsh conditions due to the river flooding.
The context of the humanitarian crisis and the impact of the Euphrates River flooding
Eastern Syria, particularly Deir ez-Zor province along the Euphrates River, is experiencing climatic and environmental fluctuations that sometimes lead to a significant rise in the river's water level. This causes the flooding of agricultural lands and damage to homes near the banks. This natural disaster exacerbates the suffering of residents already living in dire economic and social conditions as a result of years of ongoing conflict in the country. The loss of income and the destruction of crops have made urgent humanitarian intervention a critical necessity to save the most vulnerable families and ensure their basic food needs are met.

Seven hundred Syrian families directly affected by the recent floods benefited from this urgent aid. The distributed food baskets contained essential supplies sufficient to meet the families' urgent food needs for several weeks. This project is part of a comprehensive series of humanitarian and relief projects provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, which works tirelessly across Syria to provide food security, healthcare, and shelter to those affected and displaced.
The regional and international impact of the Saudi humanitarian role
The impact of this aid extends beyond the local level of rescuing affected families; it forms a cornerstone of regional and international efforts to stabilize communities impacted by conflict and natural disasters. These ongoing initiatives reflect the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to its leading role as one of the world’s largest donors of humanitarian aid. By targeting the most affected areas, such as Deir ez-Zor, the Kingdom contributes to mitigating internal displacement and irregular migration, and strengthens the resilience and recovery capacity of local communities, thus reinforcing the values of transnational humanitarian solidarity.
