Achievements of the Sakani program: 32,000 families own their first home

The housing sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieved a new qualitative leap at the beginning of this year, as the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the success of the Sakani program in enabling more than 32,000 Saudi families to move into their first home during the first quarter of 2026. These rapid steps confirm the continuation of the pace of housing empowerment and facilitating ownership procedures for citizens in various regions of the Kingdom, in line with the generous support that the real estate sector receives from the wise leadership.

The Ministry explained in its quarterly report that the total number of Saudi families benefiting from various housing support services during the first three months of this year reached 23,222. This significant figure reflects the efficiency of the integrated system provided by the state, which includes innovative financing programs and affordable housing solutions that contribute to reducing waiting times and providing options suitable for different segments of society.

Record-breaking numbers and a remarkable journey for the Sakani program since its launch

Since the launch of the Sakani program in 2017 as a key component of the Housing Program—one of the programs under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030—the residential real estate sector has witnessed a historic transformation. Prior to this period, citizens faced challenges and long waiting periods to obtain support, but digital transformation and strategic partnerships with the private sector have completely changed this reality, providing immediate and accessible solutions.

Official statistics show that the total number of subsidized contracts for beneficiaries since the program's inception until the end of the first quarter of 2026 reached 1,028,673. These contracts were distributed across the Kingdom's various regions to meet growing demand, with the Riyadh region leading the list with 273,856 subsidized contracts, followed by the Makkah region with 213,069 contracts, and then the Eastern Province in third place with 163,455 contracts, demonstrating the fair and effective geographical distribution of housing services.

Multiple housing options and innovative financing partnerships

The success of housing initiatives in the Kingdom depends on the diversity of products and solutions offered to citizens. The program continues to provide a wide range of options, including ready-built housing units, units under construction within off-plan sales projects, and self-build options for developed residential land. This diversity ensures that the varied needs of Saudi families are met, in accordance with their financial capabilities.

The close partnership between the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and real estate developers on one hand, and banks and financing institutions on the other, has contributed to injecting thousands of new housing units into the market and facilitating access to subsidized mortgage loans, which has led to an increase in the real estate supply and ensured price stability and balance in the real estate market in general.

The economic and social impact of housing empowerment plans

The significance of these achievements extends beyond simply providing suitable housing for families; it encompasses profound economic and social dimensions. Domestically, these efforts have contributed to raising the rate of homeownership among Saudi families to 66.24% by the end of 2025, representing a significant step towards the strategic target of Vision 2030, which aims to achieve a 70% homeownership rate.

At both the regional and international levels, the Saudi experience in developing the housing sector has become a model to be emulated in managing public-private partnerships (PPPs). This massive real estate activity also contributes directly to stimulating the national economy, positively impacting more than 120 industrial and service sectors related to construction and building, and creating thousands of job opportunities for Saudi nationals, thus promoting sustainable development and social welfare in the Kingdom.
