Al-Jubeir in Brussels: Strategic talks with the European Parliament

As part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to enhance the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s standing on the international stage and strengthen its relations with global powers, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member and Climate Envoy, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir , held a series of important meetings in the Belgian capital, Brussels, including with prominent leaders in the European Parliament.
Extensive talks with the Foreign Relations Committee
Al-Jubeir began his official visit with a meeting with David McAllister, Chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs. The meeting included a comprehensive review of the deep bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the European Union, and ways to develop them across various political and economic fields. The two sides also discussed the rapidly evolving regional and international developments, and exchanged views on issues of common interest, in a manner that serves the interests of both parties and enhances the prospects for global peace and stability.
Dimensions of the visit and its strategic importance
This visit is of particular importance given the current geopolitical shifts in the world, as Saudi Arabia is a key strategic partner of the European Union in the Middle East. These meetings underscore the Kingdom's pivotal role in maintaining international peace and security, as well as its leading role in global energy markets and its recent efforts on climate change.
Political readings indicate that intensifying communication with the European Parliament reflects a mutual desire to deepen the strategic dialogue, especially in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which has opened up broad horizons for economic and investment cooperation with European countries, as well as joint coordination to confront global challenges such as climate change and combating terrorism.
Parliamentary meetings and joint coordination
In a related development, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs met with Member of the European Parliament Hannah Neumann. Discussions during the meeting focused on current international developments and ways to enhance parliamentary and diplomatic cooperation between the Kingdom and the European Union. Engaging with members of the European Parliament is a vital step in explaining Saudi Arabia's perspectives on regional issues and building bridges of mutual understanding.
diplomatic presence
The high-level diplomatic presence at these meetings reflected the Kingdom’s interest in the European relations file, as Ambassador Khalid bin Musaed Al-Anqari, Director General of the Office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Haifa bint Abdulrahman Al-Jedaie, Head of the Kingdom’s Mission to the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Association, participated in the meetings, which confirms the integration of Saudi diplomatic efforts in Brussels.
