Al-Kharj Park: A winter tourist destination spanning two million square meters

In a move that reinforces Saudi Arabia's position as a diverse tourist destination, and in line with the goals of Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program, the Al-Kharj Governorate Municipality launched its massive tourism project, "Al-Kharj Park." This project represents a pioneering model for ecotourism and recreation, spanning a vast area exceeding two million square meters in an open, natural setting, making it one of the largest natural parks in the central region.
Environmental balance and sustainable design
The inauguration of Al-Kharj Park is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at developing and investing in natural sites to achieve a delicate balance between attracting tourists and preserving the environment. The relevant authorities have meticulously designed the site to harmonize with the region's topography and stunning desert landscape, avoiding the introduction of any concrete or artificial elements that could harm the site's fragile ecosystem, thus offering visitors an authentic experience amidst the golden sands.
Recreational facilities and integrated winter services
The project was designed to serve all segments of society, including a dedicated winter camping area that is a major destination for residents and visitors during the colder months. This area is equipped with all amenities, including:
- Seating areas equipped with heating to provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere.
- Outlets dedicated to producing families, which supports the local economy and provides popular and traditional foods.
- A diverse range of restaurants and cafes to suit different tastes.
Promoting cultural and sporting heritage
Because horses are an integral part of Arab identity and the history of the Najd region, the park has dedicated a large area for horseback riding, including programs to teach children the basics of equestrianism, thus connecting the new generation with the heritage of their fathers and grandfathers in a safe and recreational environment. The municipality has also prepared 45 separate areas within the park, designed using environmentally friendly natural stone materials, allowing families to enjoy complete privacy while picnicking and practicing their hobbies of cooking and barbecuing outdoors.
Environmental education and agricultural tourism
In a unique addition that blends entertainment and education, an area of 200,000 square meters has been dedicated to cultivating seasonal flowers and wild plants. This educational zone aims to inform visitors about the most common flower and plant species in the Najd region, thereby promoting environmental awareness and encouraging interest in local vegetation.
The Al-Kharj Governorate Municipality confirms that the doors of “Al-Kharj Park” are open throughout the week, inviting residents of the governorate and visitors to the capital, Riyadh, and neighboring areas to experience this unique experience that combines the charm of the desert, the luxury of services, and the beauty of nature.
