Rain is expected in the Riyadh region, and Civil Defense has issued warnings

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia has issued a new report detailing the weather forecast for the coming days. The report indicates a possibility of rainfall in the Riyadh region . According to the report, this rainy period will begin today and continue until next Friday, with the intensity and volume expected to increase significantly on Thursday and Friday. Citizens and residents are advised to take necessary safety precautions.
Provinces affected by rainfall in the Riyadh region
The expected weather conditions will affect a wide range of governorates and districts in the region. According to the National Center for Meteorology, rain will cover the capital, Riyadh, as well as the governorates and districts of Al-Dilam, Al-Muzahmiya, Dhurma, Marat, Al-Qiddiya, Ad-Diriyah, Ar-Rayn, Al-Hariq, Al-Kharj, and Hawtat Bani Tamim. The effects will also extend to Afif, Ad-Dawadmi, Al-Quway'iyah, Al-Ghat, Az-Zulfi, Al-Majma'ah, Shaqra, Thadiq, Huraymila, and Rumah. This broad geographical distribution indicates the widespread nature of the rainfall and its impact on most parts of the central region.
Climate context and seasonal changes in the Kingdom
These weather fluctuations are part of the typical seasonal changes that the Arabian Peninsula experiences during the transition between seasons. Historically, rainfall at this time of year is characterized by active surface winds that stir up dust and sand, which usually precede thunderstorms. High and low pressure systems passing through the region contribute to these rain events, helping to moderate temperatures and replenish groundwater. However, they also carry the risk of flash floods in valleys and ravines due to the arid terrain, which does not absorb water quickly.
Civil Defense guidelines and the impact of weather conditions
For its part, the General Directorate of Civil Defense urged all citizens and residents to exercise caution and fully comply with the safety instructions and guidelines announced through various media outlets. Civil Defense stressed the importance of staying away from floodplains and valleys, and avoiding swimming in pools of water that form as a result of rainfall, given the extreme danger they pose to life. Security authorities also called on drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving on highways due to reduced visibility and the possibility of vehicles skidding.
At the local and regional levels, these rains contribute to enhancing vegetation cover and supporting natural pastures in the Riyadh region and its surroundings, which aligns with the Kingdom's environmental initiatives such as the "Saudi Green Initiative." However, such weather conditions necessitate ongoing coordination between various service and municipal sectors to ensure the efficiency of stormwater drainage networks and minimize any water accumulation that could impede traffic flow within vital urban areas. May God make these rains a blessing and a source of benefit for all the land and its people.
