Jazan weather today: Rain and thunderstorms until 7 PM

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important weather alert today for the Jazan region, indicating expectations of light rain accompanied by various weather phenomena that may affect traffic and daily life in several governorates. The center explained that the weather conditions will persist until 7:00 PM this evening, urging citizens and residents to exercise caution.

According to the weather report, the rainy weather will be accompanied by strong winds that may stir up dust and sand, causing a significant decrease in horizontal visibility, in addition to thunderstorms. The affected areas include several mountainous and border governorates: Al-Harath, Al-Dayer Bani Malik, Al-Raith, Al-Ardah, Al-Aydabi, Fifa, and Haroub. The effects will also extend to open areas and highways connecting these governorates.

The geographical and climatic context of the Jazan region

These forecasts are particularly important given the diverse geography of the Jazan region. The area is characterized by a topography that combines coastal plains with towering mountain ranges in the east, such as the Fifa and Bani Malik mountains. These highlands are often prone to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and rainfall as moist winds collide with the mountains—a common climatic phenomenon that contributes to the fertility of the region's land but necessitates extreme caution when driving on mountain slopes and curves during rainfall.

Weather conditions and safety guidelines

This warning is important due to the potential dangers associated with lightning strikes and reduced visibility. Authorities typically advise staying away from valleys and floodplains, and avoiding open areas during thunderstorms. Motorists on highways in Jazan are also advised to exercise extreme caution due to strong winds that could affect vehicle stability, especially for trucks, as well as dust that reduces visibility.

Weather conditions in the rest of the Kingdom

Meanwhile, Sunday's weather fluctuations were not limited to the southern region but extended to other parts of the Kingdom. The National Center for Meteorology reported active winds stirring up dust and sand, leading to near-zero horizontal visibility in parts of Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders regions. Light rain is also possible in parts of these northern regions, reflecting a state of atmospheric instability affecting large areas of the Kingdom during this transitional period between seasons.
