Qassim Fitness Campaign: A national initiative to combat obesity and promote health

The Qassim Health Cluster officially launched the Qassim Fitness Campaign across the region's cities and governorates, as part of its initiatives to promote public health and reduce the prevalence of obesity. This important step aims to improve the quality of life for citizens and residents by providing a comprehensive package of awareness and field programs and activities targeting various age groups and segments of society, contributing to building a vibrant and healthy society capable of productivity and contribution.
Strategic goals pursued by the Qassim Fitness Campaign
The health cluster explained that this initiative is based on a comprehensive vision aimed at reducing overweight and obesity rates in the local community. The campaign seeks to improve overall health indicators by encouraging regular physical activity of at least 150 minutes per week, along with improving daily lifestyles, promoting healthy eating habits, and raising awareness among individuals and families about the importance of adopting a balanced and sustainable lifestyle.
National context and combating obesity within the framework of Vision 2030
These efforts are part of a broader national context aligned with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program, a key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. Historically, countries in the region have faced increasing challenges related to rising rates of obesity and associated chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, resulting from rapid changes in lifestyles, reliance on processed foods, and a lack of physical activity. In response, the Saudi Ministry of Health, through its various health clusters, has intensified preventive efforts to shift from a traditional curative care model to a proactive preventive care model that protects the community before diseases develop.
Extensive community partnerships to ensure success
The campaign targets diverse and influential segments of society, including school and university students, government employees, and visitors to public spaces and walking trails throughout the region. It also pays particular attention to priority groups such as those with chronic illnesses and women. To maximize its impact, the private sector and local health organizations are participating in supporting these objectives, thus strengthening community solidarity and ensuring the initiative's lasting positive impact.
Expected impact and accompanying field programs
On the ground, specialized medical teams are providing free screening services, including measuring body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage, offering immediate nutritional consultations, and referring cases requiring further medical follow-up to specialized centers. This campaign is expected to contribute, both locally and regionally, to reducing the economic and medical burden of treating obesity and to serve as a model for other regions in activating community partnerships to promote public health. The campaign is also accompanied by an intensive media plan across digital platforms to share inspiring success stories and motivate everyone to make positive changes.
