Mecca weather: Heavy rain and Civil Defense warnings until Wednesday

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important report detailing the weather forecast for the coming days, indicating that the Makkah region will be affected by moderate to heavy rainfall. According to the report, this weather system will become noticeably active and remain so on Tuesday and Wednesday, urging citizens, residents, and visitors to the Holy Mosque to take precautions.
Areas affected by the rainy weather
The meteorological department clarified that the weather conditions will not be limited to the Holy City of Mecca, but will extend to a wide geographical area encompassing several governorates and vital centers. Rainfall is expected in Jeddah, Al-Kamil, Al-Jumum, Taif, Maysan, Adham, Rabigh, Khulais, and Bahrah . These forecasts are based on precise monitoring of cloud movements and low-pressure systems affecting the Kingdom's weather during this period (December 8-10, 2025).
Civil Defense warnings and safety procedures
In conjunction with the weather report, the General Directorate of Civil Defense urged everyone to exercise extreme caution. Civil Defense emphasized the importance of adhering to the instructions announced through official media outlets and social media platforms, which include:
- Stay away completely from flood channels and valleys, as low-lying areas pose a significant risk during heavy rainfall.
- Avoid swimming in puddles that may form after rain, as they pose a serious danger.
- Drive with extreme caution on highways, especially those connecting Mecca, Jeddah and Taif, due to the possibility of reduced horizontal visibility and vehicles skidding.
The geographical and climatic context of the Makkah region
Weather warnings are particularly important given the geographical nature of the Makkah region. Makkah is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains, making it vulnerable to flash floods that travel rapidly when heavy rains fall on the surrounding highlands. The coastal city of Jeddah is also directly affected by weather systems originating in the Red Sea, which can lead to rising water levels in the streets and disruption to traffic.
The importance of adhering to official instructions
These early warnings are part of the efforts of relevant authorities in the Kingdom to ensure the safety of lives and property. Following real-time weather forecasts is essential for planning travel and avoiding potential hazards. Experts always advise postponing non-essential road travel between affected provinces during the peak of the rainy weather and relying solely on official sources (the National Center of Meteorology and Civil Defense) for information, to avoid rumors that could confuse the public.
