Hafr Al-Batin Municipality activates a compliant application to monitor sewage overflows
In a move aimed at enhancing environmental oversight and improving the urban landscape, the Hafr Al-Batin Governorate Municipality organized a specialized workshop on Monday, bringing together its staff with representatives from the National Water Company. This initiative aims to empower inspectors and grant them the necessary authority to monitor violations related to sewage leaks and overflows, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Saudi Water Authority, by utilizing digital solutions such as the "Mumtaal" application.
Institutional integration to bridge regulatory gaps
This workshop, hosted by the Secretariat, is part of a comprehensive strategy to unify field efforts across various service sectors. This collaboration between the Secretariat and the National Water Company aims to achieve effective institutional integration, bridging any oversight gaps that may arise from overlapping jurisdictions. Through this technical and procedural integration, inspectors will be able to perform their duties with greater flexibility, ensuring that violations that negatively impact infrastructure and residents' well-being are not allowed to continue.
The importance of the "Compliant" application in digital transformation
The “Mumtali” application is a cornerstone of the digital transformation system led by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. Its importance extends beyond its role as a monitoring tool; it serves as an integrated platform for enhancing municipal and community compliance. The application provides precise mechanisms for documenting violations with photos and geographic locations, facilitating immediate processing and reducing the time spent on traditional bureaucratic procedures. This aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of improving the efficiency of government services.
Environmental and health impacts of sewage overflows
This step is of paramount importance given the risks that sewage overflows pose to public health and the environment. The continuation of these leaks in residential neighborhoods and streets not only leads to foul odors and insect infestations, but also causes erosion of asphalt layers and damage to building foundations in the long term. Therefore, accelerating the pace of monitoring and treatment using modern technology directly contributes to protecting public health, preserving public and private property, and reducing the visual pollution that hinders efforts to improve the urban landscape.
Enhancing the quality of life in Hafr Al-Batin
The activation of these powers underscores the Hafr Al-Batin Municipality's commitment to enhancing the level of services provided to citizens and residents. This partnership serves as a model for cooperation between government agencies and national companies in serving the public interest. These new measures are expected to result in a significant decrease in pending sewage reports and a tangible improvement in the cleanliness and safety of the governorate's streets, ultimately contributing to the achievement of the Quality of Life Program's objectives.
