Riyadh Municipality launches hovercraft event to revive Eid heritage
The Riyadh Municipality has completed all logistical and field preparations for the hovercraft parade during the last nights of Ramadan, a step aimed at reviving popular traditions and enhancing the festive atmosphere in anticipation of Eid al-Fitr. This initiative will cover a wide range of neighborhoods in the capital, aiming to strengthen community engagement and create a unique interactive experience for residents and children.
Reviving the authentic Najdi heritage
holds event immense cultural and historical significance, representing one of the most prominent ancient Najdi customs and traditions deeply ingrained in the collective memory of the inhabitants of the central region of Saudi Arabia. Historically, "Hawamah" was a festive ritual in which children, dressed in new traditional clothing, would go out on the eve of Eid or in the days leading up to it, roaming the alleyways of their neighborhoods (sikk) and singing special songs such as "Give us our Eid gifts, may they return to you," asking their neighbors for sweets and presents. Through this event, the municipality aims to revive this beautiful heritage scene, connecting the new generation with the past of their fathers and grandfathers and instilling a sense of national cultural identity in the hearts of the young, thus ensuring the continuation of these authentic customs and preventing their disappearance amidst modern urban development.
Enhancing quality of life and social bonds
This initiative's goals extend beyond mere recreation; it carries profound social and developmental dimensions that align with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, specifically the "Quality of Life" program. The Municipality's implementation plan focuses on empowering non-profit organizations to actively participate in community development and enhance the quality of life in neighborhoods, thereby strengthening the role of the third sector as a vital development arm. The "My City" offices have also been activated as an implementing partner to ensure the smooth and high-level organization of the events, in line with the Riyadh Municipality's vision for a vibrant society and a sustainable and prosperous urban environment.
