The historical significance and religious importance of Al-Khaif Mosque
holds Al-Khaif Mosque a profound historical and religious significance for Muslims, situated in the heart of Mina at the foot of Mount Al-Sabih. Historically known as the "Mosque of the Prophets," reliable Islamic accounts indicate that approximately 70 prophets prayed at this site, including the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). The final Prophet and Messenger, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), also prayed there during his Farewell Pilgrimage. This historical depth imbues the place with a special spirituality, making prayer within its walls a cherished aspiration for every pilgrim who sets foot in Mina on the Day of Tarwiyah and the days of Tashreeq.
Exceptional preparations to welcome the pilgrims
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance has completed all operational and service preparations at the Grand Mosque in Mecca in anticipation of receiving pilgrims during the Day of Tarwiyah and the Hajj season of 1447 AH. This effort is part of a comprehensive system of technical, technological, and awareness services aimed at providing a safe and comfortable spiritual environment for pilgrims. Preparations included equipping more than 1,700 restrooms, 1,440 of which are designated for men and 300 for women, in addition to operating 410 modern cooling units connected to smart control systems. This contributes to increased cooling efficiency and improved air quality within the mosque and its courtyards, especially given the high temperatures.
Cooling and watering projects for pilgrims at record numbers
Over the past seven years, the mosque has undergone a series of development projects that have enhanced its readiness. Among the most prominent is the project to cool the mosque's surroundings by installing 57 air fans equipped with misting and fogging systems in the courtyards and walkways to reduce heat stress. Regarding water supply, 54 high-efficiency water coolers have been installed, each with a production capacity of 500 liters per hour, enabling each cooler to serve approximately 1,500 pilgrims per hour. This brings the total capacity for providing cold water to over 81,000 pilgrims per hour, ensuring that the needs of the pilgrims are met during peak times.
Local and international impact reflects successful crowd management
The exceptional care given to this mosque extends beyond the local sphere, encompassing a broad regional and international impact. Hosting millions of pilgrims from around the world and providing these advanced services reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's distinguished image and its remarkable ability to successfully manage massive crowds. These efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enrich the religious and cultural experience of pilgrims and present a global model for managing major religious facilities and ensuring the safety of their visitors.
Modern technology and awareness to ensure the safety of worshippers
On the educational and technological front, the mosque is equipped with 79 digital screens broadcasting guidance messages in several languages, and more than 50 surveillance cameras have been installed as part of an advanced security system. Mobile phone charging points have also been provided for the convenience of pilgrims. To ensure smooth flow of movement, the mosque has nine main entrances and six emergency exits. More than 500 staff members, technicians, and workers are employed around the clock to serve the mosque. The Minister of Islamic Affairs personally inspected these facilities, emphasizing the wise leadership's commitment to providing all necessary resources to enable pilgrims to perform their rituals in safety and peace.
