Makkah Education distributes 10,000 seedlings as part of the agricultural nursery initiative

In a pioneering step reflecting the commitment of educational institutions to actively participate in improving the urban and environmental landscape, the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Region, represented by its Community Responsibility Department, launched a unique initiative entitled "The Agricultural Nursery." This ambitious initiative aims to distribute more than 10,000 seedlings to various schools in the region, in a concerted effort to improve the school environment and promote the concept of "humanizing" educational buildings.
Enhancing the school environment and utilizing available spaces
The initiative focuses primarily on utilizing underutilized school spaces, transforming courtyards and corridors into vibrant green areas. The goal extends beyond aesthetics, aiming to create more welcoming environments for both students and teachers. These green spaces act as natural extensions, helping to lower temperatures and improve the overall atmosphere, positively impacting the mental well-being of the school community and fostering a more conducive environment for creativity and learning.
In line with the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030
This initiative holds significant strategic importance as it aligns perfectly with the national objectives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, specifically the "Saudi Green Initiative" launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, which aims to plant 10 billion trees across the Kingdom in the coming decades. The efforts of Makkah Education are not an isolated event, but rather an integral part of a comprehensive national movement aimed at combating desertification, increasing vegetation cover, and reducing carbon emissions, thus placing educational institutions at the heart of efforts to achieve sustainable development.
Educational and pedagogical dimensions of the initiative
Beyond its environmental objectives, the "Agricultural Nursery" initiative has profound educational dimensions. It seeks to integrate the nursery with educational and training programs, thus reinforcing the concept of applied learning. Through student participation in planting and seedling care, values of responsibility, teamwork, and a sense of belonging to the land are instilled. These extracurricular activities also contribute to developing students' life skills and raising their awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and its resources for future generations.
Supporting quality of life
These efforts directly contribute to the Quality of Life Program, one of the programs for achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030, where improving the urban landscape and increasing per capita green spaces are key indicators. By transforming schools into green oases, Makkah's education system is contributing to building a vibrant society and a generation that understands the importance of environmental balance and its role in sustaining life on Earth.
