Saudi customs ports foil 900 smuggling attempts

In a new security achievement reflecting high vigilance, Saudi land, sea, and air customs ports a significant success by thwarting 900 attempts to seize contraband in just one week. This accomplishment comes as part of the ongoing and diligent efforts of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) to enhance security and protect Saudi society from the dangers of contraband in all its forms, thus confirming the efficiency of the Kingdom's security and customs system.

The role of Saudi customs ports in protecting national security

Historically, Saudi Arabian Customs has played a pivotal role as the first line of defense against all threats to the nation's security and safety. With rapid technological advancements and economic growth, customs operations have undergone radical transformations, being equipped with the latest global technologies in radiation detection, smart systems, and highly trained personnel. This continuous development reflects the wise leadership's commitment to securing the Kingdom's vast borders, a strategic link between the world's continents, making it a target for international smuggling networks. However, the high level of preparedness of the national workforce stands as a formidable barrier against these desperate attempts.

Details of the seizures: Variety in smuggling methods and constant vigilance

Recent statistics have revealed a wide variety of contraband seized, including 133 types of highly dangerous narcotics such as hashish, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and Captagon pills, which are designed to destroy the minds of young people. In addition, 291 types of prohibited substances were confiscated. Customs authorities also thwarted attempts to smuggle 1,975 types of tobacco and its derivatives to evade duties and taxes, along with 28 types of smuggled cash involved in money laundering attempts, and 3 types of weapons and related equipment. This demonstrates the comprehensiveness and precision of customs control.

Regional and international impact of anti-smuggling efforts

The significance of these seizures extends far beyond the local level, with clear regional and international implications. By thwarting these massive quantities of drugs and contraband, the Kingdom is effectively contributing to the fight against transnational organized crime and alleviating the burden on neighboring countries that may be final destinations or transit points for these narcotics. Economically, this tightened control helps protect the national economy from illicit trade and money laundering, thereby strengthening the Kingdom's reliable investment environment and supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a vibrant society and a thriving economy.

Community partnership: A call to contribute to combating crime

The General Authority of Customs and Trade (ZATCA) affirmed its unwavering commitment to tightening customs control over all imports and exports within the Kingdom, in order to safeguard and protect society. This is achieved through continuous cooperation and coordination with all relevant partners. At the same time, ZATCA called upon all citizens and residents to actively contribute to combating smuggling to protect society and the national economy. Security reports can be submitted confidentially by calling the dedicated number (1910), emailing ([email protected]), or contacting the international number (009661910). ZATCA receives reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the Unified Customs Law, and offers a substantial financial reward to the informant if the information is proven true, thus reinforcing the principle of social responsibility.
