Kyiv denies Tehran's claims: No truth to the destruction of a Ukrainian warehouse in Dubai

In a new escalation of the information war accompanying the military conflict, Kyiv vehemently denied claims broadcast by Iranian state media that Tehran had destroyed a warehouse containing Ukrainian anti-drone systems in Dubai. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry asserted that these reports were completely false, describing them as "lies and disinformation," a move reflecting the deep tension between the two countries stemming from Iran's military support for Russia. This incident highlights that Kyiv is challenging Tehran's claims not only in the diplomatic arena but also in the international information sphere.
Kyiv refutes Tehran: “Lies” in the information war
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated in a press briefing, “This is a lie, and we officially deny this information.” He added that the Iranian regime frequently resorts to disinformation campaigns of this kind, comparing its methods to Russian propaganda. Earlier, Iranian state media had carried a statement attributed to the Iranian armed forces claiming the “bombing and destruction of a warehouse containing a Ukrainian anti-drone system in Dubai that was being used to assist the US military.” This claim, for which no evidence was provided, sparked widespread astonishment given its potentially serious consequences if true.
Background to the tension between Ukraine and Iran
These allegations cannot be separated from their broader context. Relations between Kyiv and Tehran have deteriorated sharply since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Iran of supplying Russia with Shahed suicide drones, which Moscow has used extensively to attack Ukrainian cities and vital infrastructure, causing widespread destruction and civilian casualties. Despite Tehran’s initial repeated denials, physical evidence and intelligence reports have confirmed this military cooperation, leading Ukraine to impose sanctions on Iran and downgrade diplomatic relations.
Regional and international dimensions of the claims
The Iranian claim, even if false, has implications that extend far beyond the two directly involved parties. Involving Dubai, a global financial and commercial hub in the United Arab Emirates, a country striving to maintain balanced relations with global powers, constitutes an attempt to destabilize the region. Launching a military attack on the sovereign territory of a third country is a blatant violation of international law, and thus, the mere dissemination of such news may be intended to send political messages and project an illusion of power. Internationally, this incident reinforces Iran's image as a key ally of Russia in its war, not only through direct military support but also through participation in propaganda and disinformation campaigns aimed at undermining the credibility of Ukraine and its allies.
