UN praises King Salman Relief Center's efforts in Gaza
A high-level delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) commended the humanitarian and relief projects implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre in Gaza. This came during a field visit by the UN delegation to the Gaza Strip, where they closely observed the scale and diversity of the aid provided on the ground and the vital role these interventions play in alleviating the daily suffering of the population. The delegation praised the high level of organization and the efficiency of the rapid response in implementing relief projects, particularly in light of the escalating humanitarian challenges and the exceptional circumstances facing the besieged Gaza Strip.
The humanitarian context and the Kingdom's historical commitment
These relief efforts come at a time when the Gaza Strip is experiencing one of the most severe humanitarian crises in modern history, with hundreds of thousands of residents suffering from ongoing displacement, acute shortages of basic food and medical supplies, and widespread destruction of infrastructure. Within this historical and contemporary context, the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stand out as a major and steadfast supporter of the Palestinian people. Since its establishment, the Center has undertaken the responsibility of providing urgent and sustainable humanitarian aid, continuing the Kingdom's longstanding approach of standing with its Palestinian brothers and sisters in various crises and providing them with the means to persevere and live with dignity in the most dire circumstances.
Producing 25,000 meals daily to support displaced people
During the field visit, the OCHA delegation began by inspecting the center's central kitchen, a vital lifeline for many displaced families. This kitchen provides daily hot meals to families in displacement camps, with a production capacity of approximately 25,000 meals per day. The kitchen operates continuously and diligently to enhance food security and alleviate the harsh living conditions faced by affected families. The delegation observed the kitchen's operations, from the preparation and processing of meals according to the highest standards of quality and hygiene, to the transportation and distribution processes. They also commended the tremendous efforts of the field teams from the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, the center's implementing partner in the sector.
Distribution points and management of relief supplies
The visit was not limited to the central kitchen; it also included an inspection of food basket distribution points. The UN delegation observed the organized field distribution operations targeting the most vulnerable families, as part of a comprehensive relief program aimed at expanding the reach of beneficiaries and extending aid to various governorates and regions within the Gaza Strip. In addition, the delegation visited the central warehouse for Saudi aid, where they were briefed on the precise mechanisms in place for receiving aid convoys and the plans for managing, storing, and distributing supplies. These advanced logistical procedures ensure a rapid response and the continuous delivery of humanitarian assistance to all areas, regardless of the challenges on the ground.
The local and international impact of Saudi aid
These humanitarian interventions are of paramount importance and have a multifaceted impact. Locally, this aid directly contributes to saving lives, improving food security, and preventing famine among the most vulnerable groups, including children, women, and the elderly. Regionally and internationally, the effective partnership between UN agencies such as OCHA and Saudi relief organizations reflects an exemplary international model of joint humanitarian action. This cooperation strengthens the international community's capacity to respond to complex crises and underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leading role in the global humanitarian landscape, thereby consolidating stability and supporting international efforts to mitigate the consequences of armed conflicts.
