King Salman Center distributes winter clothing in Marib as part of the Kanf project

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 1,850 winter clothing vouchers in Marib Governorate two days ago. This initiative aims to enable beneficiaries to choose winter clothing that suits their needs, in a step intended to alleviate the suffering of displaced families as the cold weather intensifies.
"Kanaf" Project: Warmth and Safety
1,850 displaced people living in camps benefited from this aid, which was provided through the winter clothing distribution project in the Republic of Yemen (Kanaf). This vital project aims to protect the most vulnerable groups, especially children, women, and the elderly, from illnesses related to cold weather, and to provide them with the necessary warmth amidst the difficult living conditions imposed by displacement.
Marib: Humanitarian and climatic challenges
This aid is of particular strategic importance given the geographical location and demographics of Marib Governorate. Marib is the largest refuge for internally displaced persons in Yemen, hosting hundreds of thousands of families who have fled conflict zones. These families face harsh climatic challenges, as the governorate's desert climate experiences sharply low temperatures during winter nights, rendering tents and temporary shelters insufficient to provide adequate protection without direct relief intervention that delivers blankets and warm clothing.
The voucher system: preserving dignity and supporting the economy
The distribution method using "purchase vouchers" has two positive aspects. The first is humanitarian, preserving the dignity of the beneficiary and giving them the freedom to choose what suits the sizes and tastes of their family members, rather than imposing specific items that may not meet their actual needs. The second aspect is economic, as these vouchers contribute to stimulating the local market in Marib by encouraging purchases from approved local merchants, thus creating a small economic cycle that benefits the host communities.
The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work
This support comes as an extension of the relief efforts undertaken by the Kingdom through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. The Center's role extends beyond seasonal aid to encompass food security, health, shelter, and water and sanitation. These initiatives underscore the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to standing with the Yemeni people in their time of need and its continuous efforts to improve the living conditions of affected groups across all Yemeni governorates without discrimination.
