King Salman Relief Center distributes food baskets in Berber, Sudan

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid , continued its tireless efforts to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people, as the center carried out a large-scale distribution of food aid in the River Nile State, targeting the most needy families and displaced people affected by the current situation.

Details of aid in Berber locality

In its latest act of Saudi aid, the center's team distributed 1,400 food baskets in Berber locality, River Nile State, northern Sudan. This assistance helped secure food for 11,700 of the most vulnerable individuals, as part of the 2026 "Madad Sudan" project, which aims to provide sustainable food security for those affected by the crisis.

The Saudi Relief Bridge: Figures and Facts

This aid comes as an extension of the air and sea bridge that the Kingdom has been operating since the outbreak of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Official statistics indicate that the volume of logistical support to date has reached:

  • 13 relief planes loaded with various types of aid.
  • 60 ships transported tons of food, medical and shelter supplies.

The support was not limited to food, but also included health and environmental programs, support for host communities, as well as strengthening humanitarian operations and volunteer programs on the ground.

The humanitarian context and the importance of timing

This aid is of paramount strategic importance given the complex circumstances Sudan has faced since the outbreak of conflict in mid-April 2023. The war has displaced millions of Sudanese from the capital, Khartoum, and other conflict zones to safer states such as River Nile State. This massive influx of people has placed immense pressure on local resources, making external relief intervention an urgent necessity to prevent the famine crisis from worsening.

The locality of “Berber” is one of the vital areas that received large numbers of newcomers, which makes targeting it with aid a well-thought-out step to alleviate the burden on displaced families and the host community alike, and to ensure that food reaches those who deserve it in light of the high prices of food commodities and their scarcity in local markets.

Size of financial support and international partnerships

As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian commitment, the total value of aid provided to the Sudanese people has exceeded US$125,566,000 . To ensure the comprehensiveness of the aid and its delivery to affected areas, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has signed several joint agreements with UN and international organizations specializing in humanitarian work, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to applying the highest standards of efficiency in managing humanitarian crises.

These ongoing actions confirm that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both leadership and people, stands with its brothers in Sudan to overcome the current crisis, and reinforces the Kingdom’s leading role in relief work at the regional and international levels.
