King Salman Center combats cholera in Yemen: Results and efforts 2025
As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to supporting its brothers and sisters in Yemen, the Emergency Cholera Response Project, funded and overseen by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center , continued to provide vital services to save lives and protect public health. From November 12 to 18, 2025, the project successfully delivered direct medical and treatment services to 2,044 beneficiaries, reflecting the scale of efforts to contain the epidemic and prevent its spread in Yemeni governorates.
Strict preventive measures and promising results
The center's field teams focused their efforts on border crossings and vital areas to ensure the early detection of any potential cases. These efforts included Aden and Al-Rayyan airports, as well as the land crossings at Al-Hafiyah and Razih, covering a wide geographical area encompassing Hadramawt (coast and valley), Aden, Hajjah, and Sa'dah. These meticulous measures yielded highly positive results, with official reports confirming that no cases of cholera were recorded during the monitoring period, demonstrating the effectiveness of the early warning system and the implemented preventive measures.
Health awareness: the first line of defense
Believing that prevention is better than cure, the project intensified its awareness campaigns alongside its medical services. A total of 381 educational sessions were conducted, benefiting 7,637 individuals of various age groups. These sessions focused on raising community awareness about the causes of cholera, its transmission methods, and the importance of water purification and handwashing—simple yet crucial practices in breaking the chain of infection and protecting local communities from deadly epidemics.

After years of ongoing conflict, health infrastructure and water and sanitation networks have been severely damaged, making Yemen a breeding ground for waterborne diseases.
