Judicial Intelligence Hackathon: Record Turnout and Date for Announcing Qualifiers

The Board of Grievances in Saudi Arabia has achieved artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency of the administrative judiciary .

The context of digital transformation in the judiciary

This hackathon is an extension of a series of strategic initiatives launched by the Board of Grievances in recent years, aimed at fully automating judicial procedures. Administrative justice is a cornerstone of achieving justice and overseeing administrative actions, making the integration of modern technologies essential to ensuring the swift resolution of disputes. This step aligns with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which focuses on building a digital society and an effective government that relies on data and artificial intelligence in decision-making and improving the quality of life.

The hackathon's organizing team confirmed that the large influx of participating teams reflects a growing societal and scientific awareness of the importance of developing the justice system. This technological competition primarily aims to improve the user experience and reduce litigation times through innovative digital solutions capable of addressing current challenges in case flow and management.

Strict standards for national outputs

In its commitment to attracting top talent, the Board of Grievances has renewed its call for experts, programmers, and university students to seize the remaining days to submit their ideas before registration closes on January 20. The Board stipulated that teams must consist of three to five members and be managed entirely by Saudis, to ensure high-quality national output and to strengthen local content in the legal technology (LegalTech) sector.

The ideas submitted through the digital portal are subject to rigorous and comprehensive evaluation criteria, primarily based on innovation and practical feasibility within the judicial work environment, while ensuring sustainability and a direct, creative impact on the work system. Through these criteria, the Court aims to move beyond theoretical ideas and develop viable prototypes that contribute to reducing human effort in routine tasks and enhancing the accuracy of judgments.

Critical deadlines and the future of smart justice

The organizers have set January 23, 2026, as the deadline for announcing the teams that will advance to the final stage, putting the contestants in a race against time to present their best technological and developmental solutions. Intensive virtual sessions are scheduled for January 28 to discuss the shortlisted projects, a step aimed at refining the ideas and connecting them to the actual needs of administrative courts and their support departments.

This initiative is a practical translation of the Board of Grievances’ strategy to adopt emerging technologies, in pursuit of “expeditious justice” and smart procedures that keep pace with the rapid development that the Kingdom is witnessing in all its sectors, thus consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a leading country in employing technology to serve justice.
