The Emir of Hail launches the annual Tarahum campaign to support prisoners' families 2025
Official inauguration under the patronage of the region's prince
His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Hail Region, inaugurated today the annual campaign of the National Committee for the Care of Prisoners, Released Prisoners, and Their Families in the region, “Tarham.” The campaign, launched under the slogan “The White Box,” was attended by the Committee Chairman, Mr. Issa bin Abdullah Al-Halyan, and a number of committee members and officials. This patronage underscores the support provided by the Saudi leadership to humanitarian and social programs and initiatives throughout the Kingdom.
“Compassion”: Historical background and humanitarian message
The National Committee for the Care of Prisoners, Released Prisoners, and Their Families (Tarahum) is one of the most prominent charitable and developmental organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Established by a Cabinet decision, its mission is to provide comprehensive care for inmates, released prisoners, and their families—a group in need of organized community support to overcome the challenges they face. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, Tarahum has branches throughout the Kingdom, ensuring its services reach the widest possible range of beneficiaries. Tarahum strives to transform the prison sentence into a period of reform and rehabilitation, mitigating the negative social and economic impacts on inmates' families.
Campaign objectives and expected impact
The “White Fund” campaign aims to promote the values of social solidarity and mobilize community support from individuals, institutions, and business leaders to contribute to the committee’s endowment fund. This fund ensures the sustainability of the financial resources needed to implement the committee’s diverse programs, which include providing financial and in-kind assistance, paying rent, providing healthcare, and supporting the education of prisoners’ children to ensure their academic progress is not disrupted. The expected impact of this campaign extends beyond direct financial support; it contributes to maintaining family cohesion, protecting children from delinquency, and providing a stable environment that helps inmates reintegrate into society after serving their sentences, thus reducing recidivism rates and enhancing social security.
Supporting leadership and integrating efforts
During the inauguration ceremony, the Governor of Hail Region received a report on the “Tarham” Endowment Fund and the 2025 Impact Report. His Highness commended the significant support provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister – may God protect them – to this segment of society. Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad emphasized the importance of concerted efforts among all relevant entities and the engagement of business leaders and citizens with the campaign, stemming from the principle of social solidarity that characterizes the people of this nation. For his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Issa Al-Halyan, expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Governor for his ongoing support of the Committee's activities, praising the outstanding response from all sectors of society to the “Tarham” initiatives in achieving its noble goals.
