Jeddah's beaches and marine sites are ready to welcome summer visitors
The Jeddah Municipality announced the readiness of 12 coastal sites, including Jeddah's most prominent beaches and surrounding areas, to welcome visitors and vacationers during the current summer season. This step is part of a comprehensive operational and monitoring plan extending along the Makkah region's coastline, from Rabigh in the north to Al-Qunfudhah in the south, to provide a safe and distinctive tourism experience for all visitors to the Red Sea during the summer holidays and the post-Hajj season.
Developing Jeddah's beaches as a leading tourist destination in line with Vision 2030
Historically, Jeddah has long been known as the “Bride of the Red Sea,” serving as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s premier coastal gateway and a major destination for visitors from both within and outside the Kingdom. In recent years, the area’s waterfronts have undergone a radical transformation thanks to ongoing development projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. Jeddah’s beaches simply places for leisure; they have evolved into integrated tourist facilities featuring green spaces, pedestrian and cycling paths, and entertainment areas equipped with state-of-the-art amenities that cater to the needs of families and tourists alike.
Details of the operational plan to enhance safety and security
To ensure the safety of beachgoers, the Jeddah Municipality's operational plan includes equipping coastal sites with highly qualified rescue and field supervision teams. These teams comprise 66 lifeguards and 34 supervisors to monitor field performance around the clock. These intensive efforts aim to enhance maritime safety and adherence to guidelines at designated swimming beaches.
In this context, the Secretariat emphasized the importance of visitor awareness and urged them to fully comply with safety instructions, avoid swimming during inclement weather or in undesignated areas. It also stressed the need to adhere to permitted swimming times, which are from sunrise to sunset, and the importance of constant supervision of children to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The economic and tourism impact of developing waterfronts
These preparations have significant dimensions that extend beyond local entertainment to encompass economic and tourism impacts at both the regional and international levels. Locally, the development of beaches such as Rabigh Beach, Pearl Beach, South Obhur Beach, and the beaches of Al-Lith and Al-Qunfudhah will contribute to boosting domestic tourism and attracting investments in the hospitality, restaurant, and water sports sectors.
At the regional and international levels, enhancing coastal infrastructure positions Makkah and Jeddah on the global tourism map as a competitive maritime destination overlooking the Red Sea, one of the world's most important waterways and ecological routes. Providing a safe and well-regulated tourism environment boosts the flow of international tourists and reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading global tourist hub, positively impacting the diversification of national income sources and increasing the tourism sector's contribution to the GDP.
