Roots of Joy: The Legacy of Eid al-Fitr Celebrations in the Eastern Province

The Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia boasts a long and rich history of organizing festivals and public celebrations, especially during holidays. Historically, Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the Eastern Province limited to simple family gatherings and local events in neighborhoods. However, with rapid development and the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to enhance quality of life, these celebrations have transformed into massive carnivals and integrated tourism festivals. This transformation has made the region a leading tourist destination, where authenticity and heritage blend with the latest international entertainment offerings, reflecting the region's rich cultural identity and highlighting its capacity to host major events that cater to all segments of society.

The “We Are All Khafji” Festival and its regional and local impact

One of the highlights of these celebrations is the exceptional “We Are All Khafji” festival. Al-Zahrani noted that this festival will launch on the third day of Eid and continue for ten consecutive days in its tenth edition. The importance of this event lies in its significant regional and local impact; it not only attracts residents of the region but is also expected to draw a notable number of visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, particularly from the sisterly State of Kuwait, given the geographical proximity and close social ties. This influx of visitors from the Gulf region will boost local economic activity and stimulate the tourism, hospitality, and retail sectors, underscoring the vital role that entertainment events play in supporting the national economy and strengthening cultural and social bonds among the peoples of the region.

A variety of entertainment options to suit all ages

The entertainment offerings are diverse, including folk performances reflecting authentic Saudi heritage, interactive theaters, dedicated children's areas, and a variety of musical performances. Al-Zahrani confirmed that the waterfront areas will host the largest share of these events, with King Abdullah Park on the Dammam Corniche hosting the municipality's main activities. He noted that the Eid calendar was carefully designed to suit all age groups, from children and youth to the elderly, with ample attention given to children. In this context, the General Administration of the Community Company will organize a special children's event at the park in the Al-Badi'a district of Dammam, ensuring smiles on the faces of youngsters.

Early security and organizational coordination to ensure the safety of visitors

To ensure the success of these massive events, and with regard to the organizational aspect, Al-Zahrani explained that the municipality coordinated early with security authorities and specialized companies to guarantee smooth traffic flow and the safety of visitors at all designated celebration sites. He emphasized that these tremendous efforts come in implementation of the directives of the Governor of the Eastern Province and his deputy, and with direct and continuous on-site follow-up from the Mayor of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubair. This integrated coordination reflects the commitment of the concerned authorities to providing a safe and enjoyable environment, allowing families and visitors to spend unforgettable moments during the Eid holidays.
