The origin and historical development of the Citizen Account Program
The Citizen Account Program is one of the most important government initiatives in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Launched in late 2017 as a key component of the economic reforms associated with Saudi Vision 2030, the program was established with the primary objective of protecting Saudi families from the direct and indirect impacts of various structural economic reforms, such as adjustments to energy and water prices and the implementation of value-added tax (VAT). Since its inception, the program has worked to direct government support directly to eligible groups, contributing to increased efficiency in government spending and ensuring that support reaches its intended beneficiaries based on precise and transparent criteria that take into account family income, the number of family members, and their ages.
The economic and social impact of supporting the Citizen's Account
The financial support provided extends beyond simply meeting basic needs; it has a broad and positive impact on the local economy and Saudi society. Locally, the injection of billions of riyals monthly into the market stimulates commercial activity and increases citizens' purchasing power, positively impacting the retail and services sectors. Socially, the program plays a vital role in strengthening the social safety net and reducing economic disparities among different segments of society, ensuring family stability and a decent standard of living. This financial stability empowers families to plan effectively and allocate their spending towards education, healthcare, and overall quality of life, aligning with the Kingdom's strategic goals for sustainable development.
In conclusion, the regularly released figures and statistics reaffirm the Saudi government's commitment to supporting its citizens and providing an effective social safety net. With the continuation of monthly deposits, the program remains a cornerstone of the government's support system, reflecting the leadership's insightful vision in balancing necessary economic reforms with the well-being of its citizens.
