Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj calls for trust in local writers and producers

Saudi star and comedian Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj affirmed that the cultural and entertainment sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing an unprecedented artistic and historical leap, thanks to the unlimited support of the wise leadership under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During an open meeting organized by the Dammam Culture and Arts Association on the occasion of World Art Day, as part of the "Literary Partner" initiative, Al-Hajjaj explained that the Kingdom's wise vision has directly contributed to elevating Saudi arts to international standards and has opened wide horizons for young talents to produce creative content capable of competing globally.
Context of the historical transformation of the Saudi cultural landscape
The statements by artist Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj come at a time when the Kingdom is experiencing an exceptional cultural movement led by the Ministry of Culture and the General Entertainment Authority, in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Historically, Saudi theater and art have gone through phases of limited individual efforts, but recent years have witnessed the institutionalization of the arts sector and the establishment of specialized bodies such as the Film Commission and the Theater and Performing Arts Commission. The announcement of massive projects like the 'Riyadh University of Arts' represents a pivotal turning point that will contribute to an academy of talent and the development of a new generation equipped with the technical skills and imagination to create professional content that meets international standards.
Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj and purposeful comedy, far removed from buffoonery
Speaking about the state of comedy, Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj emphasized the difficulty of this art form, which demands intelligence, keen observation, and extreme caution, stressing that it is not the lighthearted art some might imagine. Al-Hajjaj urged drama producers to move away from slapstick and copying foreign works, and instead focus on real societal issues. He pointed out that audiences always seek something that resonates with them, whether it be genuine laughter or real tears, and considered trust in local writers and producers to be the key to producing distinguished Gulf and Arab works that can compete strongly in various drama seasons, such as the holy month of Ramadan.
Theater as a fundamental pillar for building the actor and developing his performance
Al-Hajjaj spoke about his personal experience and his relationship with the Culture and Arts Association in Dammam, describing it as his "first home" that contributed to shaping his artistic beginnings and honing his talent. He emphasized that theater remains the primary school and the cornerstone for any actor striving for excellence, as it grants them confidence and the ability to face the audience directly and refines their expressive tools. He mentioned that this year he undertook a wonderful challenge by combining television and theater work simultaneously, noting that theater keeps him alive as an actor, while television drama opens new horizons and audiences for him.
The expected impact of the artistic renaissance locally and regionally
This significant artistic transformation has far-reaching effects, extending beyond the local level to encompass regional and international arenas. Locally, art contributes to strengthening national identity and provides promising job opportunities for young Saudis in directing, writing, acting, and production. Regionally and internationally, Saudi art positions the Kingdom as a new cultural center of gravity in the Middle East, enhancing its presence at international film and theater festivals and presenting a genuine and vibrant image of a young Saudi society that understands the language of visual arts and possesses the tools of the modern age.
