Meteorology: Heavy rain expected in 8 regions of Saudi Arabia from Friday to Sunday

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important and urgent weather alert for the coming days, revealing significant weather fluctuations including moderate to heavy rainfall. According to the report, this rainy weather system will begin to have its full effects from Friday evening until Sunday morning, necessitating caution.

Weather details and affected areas

Based on the outputs of the advanced Saudi numerical model, forecasts indicate a wide geographical range for the rainy weather system, encompassing eight major regions. Thunderstorms will begin to form and affect the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and Northern Borders the Madinah and Makkah regions . Weather maps also indicate that the system's effects will reach the Hail and Qassim , in addition to the northern parts of the Eastern Province .

Modern technologies and accuracy of predictions

The National Center for Meteorology relies on a sophisticated technological infrastructure to issue these accurate alerts, most notably Saudi numerical models that analyze atmospheric data with high precision. These technologies play a pivotal role in monitoring weather fluctuations well in advance, giving relevant authorities and individuals ample time to prepare. These efforts reflect the Kingdom's commitment to developing its meteorological system and protecting the environment to ensure the safety of lives and property, especially in light of the climate changes the world and the region are experiencing.

Safety guidelines and maximum readiness

Given the likelihood of these weather fluctuations continuing for several consecutive days, the center emphasized the need to raise the level of preparedness to deal with the expected rainfall, which could lead to flash floods in valleys and streams in the affected areas. In this context, the meteorological department is coordinating with the Saudi Civil Defense to issue warnings to citizens and residents.

Experts advise following these safety guidelines during rainfall:

  • Stay completely away from flood channels and valley bottoms.
  • Avoid leaving your homes except in cases of extreme necessity during periods of heavy rainfall.
  • Drive very carefully and leave a safe distance between vehicles to avoid skidding.
  • Follow official weather forecasts only through approved channels.

Environmental and geographical impact

This rainfall pattern is particularly significant given the areas it covers, including densely populated regions and vital areas such as Mecca and Medina. Rainfall at this time of year is part of the transitional season, which is often characterized by rapid and intense periods of atmospheric instability. Despite the potential risks of flash floods, this rainfall contributes to irrigating vegetation and replenishing groundwater, thus benefiting the Kingdom's desert environment in the long term, provided that its immediate risks are addressed responsibly.

The relevant authority confirmed that its specialized teams are continuing to monitor the weather situation “moment by moment”, while adhering to issuing immediate alerts and warnings to ensure that accurate information reaches the public in a timely manner.
