Medical care during Hajj: A historical legacy and ongoing development

Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always placed great importance on the health of pilgrims since its founding. Medical care during Hajj has developed remarkably, from simple field clinics in past decades to fully equipped medical cities and mobile hospitals with the latest global technologies today. This historical development reflects a firm commitment to serving Islam and Muslims, with the state dedicating all its human and material resources to ensuring that pilgrims perform their rituals in a safe and healthy environment, free from epidemics and infectious diseases—a challenge that the Kingdom successfully overcomes annually with excellence and competence.

Regional and international impact of the success of the health system

The Kingdom's success in managing massive gatherings and providing high-quality healthcare extends far beyond the local level, leaving a significant regional and international impact. Internationally, Saudi Arabia's experience in "mass gathering medicine" serves as a global benchmark, drawing on the World Health Organization and other countries for managing major events. Regionally, this success reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leading power capable of safeguarding regional health security, particularly given the influx of pilgrims from across the globe.

The Ministry of Health concluded its statement by emphasizing that these achievements are part of a comprehensive system involving various health, security, and regulatory bodies. These collaborative efforts continue with the aim of providing comprehensive and safe healthcare, reflecting the complete readiness of the Saudi health sector and the competence of its national workforce in serving pilgrims throughout the Hajj season.
