United Nations: Iran's attacks on civilians in the Gulf and Jordan amount to war crimes

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, warned of a dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, stressing that civilians are bearing the brunt of the suffering.
Addressing the Human Rights Council during an urgent debate on the repercussions of Iranian attacks on Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) countries and Jordan, Türk explained that missile and drone attacks launched by Iran targeted military bases, residential areas, and vital infrastructure in several Gulf states and Jordan, resulting in deaths, injuries, and widespread damage to infrastructure, including ports, airports, and energy and water facilities.
Türk called for an immediate halt to the Iranian attacks, emphasizing that attacks on civilians could constitute war crimes. He also warned of serious global economic consequences resulting from the disruption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
