Details of awarding contracts for the maintenance and operation of mosques in Saudi Arabia

Under the guidance and continuous supervision of His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, the Ministry continues its diligent efforts in caring for mosques. In this context, the Ministry announced the awarding of a significant number of contracts for the maintenance and operation of mosques and grand mosques in several regions and governorates of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to enhance the services provided to worshippers. The total value of the contracts awarded by the Ministry since the beginning of the year exceeds 113,567,413 Saudi Riyals, covering the maintenance of 1,837 mosques and grand mosques.

A historical extension of service to Islam and Muslims

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, since its unification by King Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God have mercy on him – was founded on a firm basis of devotion to the true Islamic faith and service to its holy sites. This concern is not limited to the Two Holy Mosques alone, but extends to all mosques throughout the country. Projects for the maintenance and operation of mosques are an integral part of this long-standing vision. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance was established as the institutional body responsible for organizing these efforts and ensuring a comprehensive spiritual and faith-based environment that meets the needs of worshippers and provides them with the utmost comfort and tranquility to perform their rituals with ease.

Geographical distribution of mosque maintenance and operation projects

The new contracts included broad geographical coverage to ensure services reach various areas. In the Riyadh region, the contracts included the maintenance, cleaning, and operation of 50 mosques and prayer halls in the Rmah Governorate, 48 in the Tamir Center in the Majmaah Governorate, 78 mosques in the Al-Hariq Governorate, 102 in the Dawadmi Governorate, in addition to 129 mosques and prayer halls in the Afif Governorate.

In the Al-Baha region, contracts covered 181 mosques and prayer halls in the Al-Mandaq and Bani Hassan governorates, and 123 in the Al-Qura governorate. In the Al-Jawf region, contracts were allocated for 201 mosques and prayer halls in the Tabuk governorate. These efforts also extended to the Al-Qassim region, encompassing 259 mosques in the Al-Badai' governorate, and in the Hail region, 354 mosques were included in the Al-Rawdah, Fayd, Al-Shanan, Samira, Baqaa, and Al-Ghazalah governorates. In the Eastern Province, contracts covered 153 mosques in the Qaryat Al-Ulya and Al-Nu'airiyah governorates, while the Madinah region received contracts for 159 mosques and prayer halls.

The local and Islamic impact of caring for mosques

Continued investment in mosque maintenance projects has far-reaching positive impacts. Locally, these large-scale contracts create new job opportunities for Saudi nationals in the maintenance, operation, and management sectors, thus supporting economic activity across various governorates. Furthermore, these projects ensure the preservation of mosque infrastructure and extend its lifespan by implementing the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

At both the regional and international levels, these steps reinforce the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's position as a leading model to be emulated in the Islamic world in the management and care of endowments and mosques. These contracts are an extension of the Ministry's efforts to prepare mosques for worshippers and enhance operational and maintenance efficiency, reflecting the utmost care that the wise leadership—may God support them—gives to mosques, ensuring they remain beacons of guidance radiating faith and cleanliness throughout the Kingdom.
