Hajj season preparations: 66 centers and 20 bridges operational in the holy sites

As part of intensive preparations to receive pilgrims, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the completion of its field services system in the holy sites, in line with its operational plan for a successful Hajj season. This step comes through an integrated system aimed at enhancing response times and increasing operational efficiency in high-density areas, to ensure the provision of the best services to pilgrims and facilitate the performance of their rituals with ease and convenience.

A continuous historical development to serve the guests of God

Throughout history, the care of pilgrims and the development of the Holy Sites have been a top priority for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For decades, the infrastructure in Mecca and the Holy Sites has witnessed tremendous leaps forward. In the past, Hajj organization relied not on modern technology but on manual labor and limited resources. Today, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the Holy Sites have been transformed into temporary smart cities managed by the latest global systems. This historic development reflects the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to providing a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for the millions of Muslims who flock annually to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.

Advanced infrastructure to ensure the success of the Hajj season

The ministry explained that the operational plan included the operation of 66 service centers, 28 of which are located within the Holy Sites. These centers serve as field support and operations hubs, contributing to enhanced service continuity and faster response to field reports and observations. The ministry further stated that preparations included upgrading public facilities, operational headquarters, and logistical support sites, thereby strengthening the readiness of field teams at various vital locations. The work also encompassed the construction and equipping of 20 pedestrian bridges and 18 tunnels, along with the development of roads and surrounding areas along traffic routes, all of which contribute to smoother crowd movement and improved traffic flow.

Strategic dimensions and regional and international impact

The importance of these massive facilities extends far beyond the local level, impacting regionally and internationally. The successful management of millions of people within a limited geographical area and a short timeframe serves as a global model for crisis management and the organization of major events. Internationally, this success reinforces the Kingdom's position as a leader in the Islamic world, capable of hosting millions with the highest standards of security and safety. Locally, these projects contribute to creating seasonal job opportunities, stimulating economic activity, and developing young national talent who gain invaluable field experience in crowd management and logistics.

Municipal volunteering system and improving services

As part of its operational plans, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the completion of over 11 million linear meters of roads and the improvement and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces. In addition, 123 bridges and 44 pedestrian and vehicular underpasses were made operational, and 62 additional underpasses were prepared as part of the transportation system in the Holy Sites. Furthermore, more than 330,000 lighting units and 150,000 light poles were activated in Makkah, enhancing traffic flow and safety. The Ministry, through its regional municipalities, also mobilized over 4,500 male and female volunteers within the municipal volunteer system to serve pilgrims at key locations, entry points, and roads leading to the Holy Sites, supporting operational and service efforts during the Hajj season.
