A fire at a refugee shelter in Germany engulfs a residential complex in Hesse

A tragic incident occurred in the city of Raunheim, located in the southern German state of Hesse, when a fire broke out in a shelter for refugees and the homeless, resulting in injuries to several people and firefighters. The fire, which completely engulfed the residential complex made up of shipping containers, triggered a state of emergency response in the area, with questions surrounding the cause and circumstances of the incident still under investigation by the relevant security authorities.

According to a spokesperson for the German fire department, the fire resulted in a shoulder injury to one resident of the complex, who also suffered smoke inhalation. Four brave firefighters were also injured, sustaining burns of varying degrees from the intense heat while battling the raging flames.

The spokesperson explained that the fire spread with incredible speed, with flames shooting out of the windows of two ground-floor apartments when rescue teams arrived. More than 100 firefighters participated in the complex firefighting operation, facing extremely difficult conditions that resulted in damage to two fire engines due to the intense heat.

Regarding the human toll inside the complex, it is estimated that about 30 people were living in these residential containers, but the fire and rescue teams found only 13 people at the scene of the incident upon their arrival, while investigations are still underway to determine the fate of the rest of the residents and to ensure their safety, while the police confirmed that there are no initial indications that determine the exact cause of the outbreak of the fire so far.
