King Fahd Causeway Health Monitoring Center Readiness for Pilgrims 1447 AH

As part of the early and intensive preparations for the 1447 AH Hajj season, the CEO of the Eastern Health Cluster, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ghamdi, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour to assess the readiness of the health monitoring center at the King Fahd Causeway. He was accompanied on this important field visit by the Director General of the Ministry of Health branch in the Eastern Province, Mr. Alwan Al-Shamrani, and the Executive Director of the Public Health Authority's "Weqaya" branch in the Eastern Sector, Dr. Abdulrahman Abu Dahesh. This step comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to ensure the provision of the highest levels of medical and preventive care for pilgrims arriving via the Kingdom of Bahrain.

A long history of providing healthcare to pilgrims

Since its founding, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on the health and safety of pilgrims to the Holy Mosque in Mecca. Providing healthcare for millions of pilgrims is considered one of the Kingdom's greatest achievements. In this historical context, the King Fahd Causeway, officially opened in 1986, stands as a vital artery and strategic crossing point connecting the Kingdom to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Over the decades, medical procedures at border crossings have evolved to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims, making border health centers the first line of defense for protecting national and global health security and ensuring that Hajj seasons remain free of epidemics and infectious diseases.

A comprehensive evaluation of the health monitoring center services at King Fahd Causeway

During the inspection tour, officials focused on a thorough and direct assessment of the medical and preventative services provided at the King Fahd Causeway Health Control Center. The review included ensuring a safe and healthy environment equipped with the latest medical equipment, enabling pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind. The importance of logistical and human resources support was also emphasized, with the Eastern Health Cluster reinforcing the center with a select group of qualified medical and technical personnel capable of handling various emergency cases. Furthermore, the latest digital technologies and smart systems have been implemented, effectively expediting health and preventative procedures and improving operational efficiency without causing any delays to the movement of travelers and pilgrims.

Strategic dimensions of securing border crossings

The importance of these preparations extends beyond the local level to encompass crucial regional and international dimensions. Locally, these stringent measures ensure the protection of Saudi society from any potential health risks. Regionally, this preparedness facilitates the movement of pilgrims arriving from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, enhancing the flow of traffic and providing complete reassurance to neighboring nations. Internationally, the Kingdom's success in managing crowds and implementing global health standards at its entry points reflects its unwavering commitment to global health security and provides a model to be emulated in managing large gatherings in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.

An integrated system across land and air ports

It is worth noting that the Eastern Health Cluster's role is not limited to a single entry point. During the Hajj season, it assumes the immense responsibility of operating and providing medical supervision at four major land border crossings. These include the King Fahd Causeway linking the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Salwa border crossing with the State of Qatar, the Rub' al Khali crossing connecting the Kingdom with the Sultanate of Oman, and the Al-Batha crossing with the United Arab Emirates. These extensive efforts are complemented by its oversight of the vital air gateway, King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. All these entry points operate in complete harmony and coordination to ensure the provision of comprehensive healthcare services befitting the Kingdom's stature and its unwavering commitment to the comfort and safety of the pilgrims.
