Saudi Arabia weather: Winds, dust, and the end of winter is near

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia, in its daily weather report, revealed the continuation of weather fluctuations affecting several regions, with the atmosphere being impacted by active surface winds stirring up dust and sand. This weather pattern is part of the typical climatic characteristics of the transitional period preceding the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
Weather details and affected areas
The report indicated that the impact of strong winds, which reduce horizontal visibility, continues across large parts of the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, Tabuk, and Hail regions. This impact also extends to the eastern parts of the Madinah and Makkah regions. Meanwhile, the center did not rule out the possibility of light rain in the northern parts of the Kingdom, urging caution while driving in these unstable weather conditions.
Fog formation chances and safety alerts
Regarding coastal areas, the center indicated that conditions remain favorable for dense fog during the night and early morning hours, which may reduce horizontal visibility. This includes the coastal areas of Makkah, Asir, and Jazan regions, as well as parts of the Eastern Province. Meteorologists and road safety experts advise drivers to maintain safe distances and use fog lights when necessary to ensure their safety.
State of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding sea conditions, the report indicated that surface winds over the Red Sea are southwesterly to northwesterly in the northern part, and southeasterly to southwesterly at speeds ranging from 15 to 32 km/h in the central and southern parts, with wave heights between half a meter and one and a half meters. In the Arabian Gulf, winds are northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 16 to 30 km/h, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate.
Countdown to the end of winter
In a related development concerning the general climate, the official spokesperson for the National Center for Meteorology announced that the Kingdom will officially bid farewell to winter in 12 days. He noted via his official account that this year's winter was exceptional, characterized by its warmth compared to previous years. He confirmed that some cities in the Kingdom barely felt the usual winter chill, attributing this to the concentration of cold air masses primarily over the northern and central regions. He also indicated that temperatures are beginning to gradually rise, especially in coastal areas, in preparation for the upcoming season.
