Jordan welcomes the Riyadh conference to resolve the issue of southern Yemen

The Jordanian government expressed its strong welcome and full support on Saturday for the call by the head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen to hold a comprehensive conference in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. This anticipated conference aims to bring together all southern political and social groups at a single negotiating table to discuss just and sustainable solutions to the southern Yemeni issue, thereby ending tensions and unifying the national ranks.
A positive step towards stability
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered this invitation a positive and pivotal step in resolving the Yemeni crisis, one that could end the tensions and escalations witnessed in some southern regions in recent times. The Ministry emphasized that dialogue and diplomatic solutions are the only way to overcome internal differences and build a solid foundation that serves the interests of all segments of the Yemeni people.
Appreciating Saudi Arabia's hosting
In a related context, Amman highly commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's announcement of its readiness to host this important conference. The Jordanian government noted that this hosting is an extension of the Kingdom's leading and pivotal role in supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in the Republic of Yemen. This conference is part of a series of ongoing Saudi efforts aimed at fostering Yemeni consensus, from the Riyadh Agreement to the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations, to ensure unity in confronting current challenges.
The importance of unifying the home front
This conference is of paramount strategic importance at this juncture, as unifying the southern factions and addressing the southern issue is a fundamental pillar for bolstering the legitimacy of the Presidential Leadership Council and strengthening the legitimate government's negotiating position in any future comprehensive peace negotiations. Furthermore, stability in the southern governorates will positively impact regional security and the security of waterways in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
Continued calls for calm and dialogue
For his part, Ambassador Fouad Majali, the official spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's firm and consistent position calling for de-escalation and a halt to all forms of escalation. Majali stressed the necessity of prioritizing reason and dialogue, and addressing the outstanding issues between the Yemeni brothers through mutual understanding.
Al-Majali explained that consensual political solutions are what achieve the supreme interest of the Republic of Yemen and its brotherly people, and ensure the preservation of its security, stability and territorial integrity, which in turn contributes to strengthening regional security and stability and fulfills the aspirations of the Yemeni people to live in peace and prosperity.
