Kuala Lumpur International Airport witnessed a significant Islamic event today as the first flights carrying pilgrims participating in the Makkah Route Initiative from Malaysia, bound directly for Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah. The pilgrims were seen off in a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials, including Malaysian Minister of Religious Affairs Zulkifli bin Hassan and the Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia, Osama bin Dakhel Al-Ahmadi. This reflects the deep bilateral relations between the two brotherly nations and their shared commitment to ensuring the utmost comfort for the pilgrims from the very beginning of their spiritual journey.

This pioneering initiative aims to provide exceptional, high-quality services to pilgrims from participating countries. The procedures include welcoming pilgrims and facilitating all their arrangements at their home airports with ease and convenience. These facilitations begin with biometric data collection and the issuance of Hajj visas electronically, followed by passport control procedures at the departure airport after verifying compliance with all necessary health requirements. Furthermore, luggage is coded and sorted according to transportation and accommodation arrangements within the Kingdom, enabling pilgrims to be transported directly upon arrival via dedicated buses to their accommodations in Makkah and Madinah, while partner agencies deliver their luggage to them without any hassle or waiting.

The historical roots of this ambitious project date back to 1438 AH (2017 CE), when the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the Makkah Route Initiative as one of the most important strategic initiatives within the "Guests of God Service Program," one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030. The initiative initially began in Malaysia and Indonesia and later expanded to include other Islamic countries. Since its launch, the initiative has successfully served more than 1,254,994 pilgrims, highlighting the Kingdom's historical and ongoing commitment to harnessing all its capabilities to serve Islam and Muslims and to developing the Hajj system to keep pace with the latest global technologies.

This national project has far-reaching dimensions and impacts on various levels. Domestically, the initiative significantly contributes to easing congestion at Saudi airports, thereby enhancing operational efficiency during the busy Hajj season. Regionally and internationally, it strengthens the Kingdom's position and underscores its leadership in crowd management and the application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies to serve humanity. The Ministry of Interior is implementing this initiative for the eighth year in complete harmony and integration with several governmental and private entities. These partnerships include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Ministry of Media, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) plays a prominent role in providing advanced technological infrastructure, alongside the General Authority for Endowments, the General Directorate of Passports, the Guests of God Service Program, and in coordination with the digital partner (stc Group). This institutional synergy is what ensures the initiative's success year after year, enabling pilgrims to perform their rituals with complete peace of mind and spirituality.
