In detail, security patrols in the Asir region arrested a citizen after receiving information and conducting a thorough investigation that led to his apprehension while he was distributing five kilograms of the narcotic plant khat. The suspect was immediately detained and initial legal procedures were initiated against him, prior to referring him to the competent authorities to complete the investigations and apply the deterrent penalties stipulated by law.
The Kingdom's efforts in the war on drugs
This successful operation is an extension of the Kingdom's comprehensive national campaign to combat drugs, which aims to eliminate smuggling and trafficking networks in all regions, particularly border areas and rugged mountainous regions. The security forces play a pivotal role in this effort, supporting other security sectors in mountainous and valley areas, thus forming a strong line of defense against smugglers and traffickers who attempt to exploit the difficult terrain to spread their poison.
The dangers of khat and its social impact
Khat is a narcotic that Saudi authorities are rigorously combating due to its serious health, psychological, and economic consequences. Security agencies are paying particular attention to combating its distribution in the southern regions to protect youth and society from falling into the clutches of addiction, and to preserve social security and family stability.
