Rain in Al-Baha today... Thunderstorms and weather warnings

The Al-Baha region experienced unstable weather conditions today, characterized by scattered rainfall ranging from light to moderate, accompanied by active thunderstorms that brought a distinctly wintry atmosphere to the area. This rainfall affected large parts of Al-Baha city and its suburbs, extending to cover scattered areas of the surrounding governorates.
Rainfall was concentrated particularly in the governorates of Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, Al-Qura, and Bani Hassan, as well as in the Tihama region, including Qalwa, Ghamid Al-Zanad, and Al-Hajrah, and their surrounding areas. This continuous rainfall led to the flow of several valleys and streams, saturating the land and promising a good agricultural season, while also boosting the region's water reserves. Natural parks were also transformed into vibrant green spaces following the rain.
National Center of Meteorology forecasts
In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology issued its daily weather forecast for the Kingdom, indicating a continued chance of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds and hail. The report clarified that this weather pattern is not limited to Al-Baha region but extends to parts of the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Makkah, with the possibility of dense fog that could reduce horizontal visibility during the early morning and late night hours.
Geographical nature and the impact of rainfall
The Al-Baha region holds special geographical and climatic importance, situated as it is on the Sarawat Mountains. This makes it susceptible to humid air currents from the Red Sea, which collide with the towering mountains to form cumulonimbus clouds. This topographical feature makes Al-Baha one of the regions in the Kingdom that receives the most rainfall, positively impacting its dense vegetation and renowned agricultural terraces that produce some of the finest fruits and grains.
The importance of rain and safety measures
These rains are of paramount importance to the region, both environmentally and economically; they are the primary source of irrigation for traditional agricultural terraces and the replenishment of underground and surface dams. This rainfall is also expected to attract more visitors and tourists to enjoy the pleasant weather and stunning natural scenery that characterize the region, particularly in renowned parks and forests such as Raghadan Forest and Baljurashi Parks.
In light of these conditions, the relevant authorities and the Civil Defense are urging citizens, residents, and visitors to the region to exercise caution, stay away from flood channels and valleys, and avoid attempting to cross them while they are flowing. Drivers are also advised to drive with extreme caution in elevated areas due to the possibility of fog and reduced visibility, and to adhere to public safety instructions to protect lives and property.
