The 2025 camping season in Saudi Arabia's nature reserves has begun: Book your permit now

The National Center for Wildlife Development has officially announced the start of the 2025-2026 camping season in its nature reserves, under the slogan “Experience Nature.” This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at revitalizing ecotourism in Saudi Arabia and providing an exceptional experience for nature and adventure enthusiasts, while preserving ecological balance and the sustainability of natural resources.
Ecotourism and the goals of Vision 2030
This announcement is not simply about opening the door to camping; it comes within the context of major transformations taking place in the Kingdom as part of Vision 2030, specifically the "Green Saudi Arabia" initiative and the Quality of Life Program. These initiatives aim to strengthen the relationship between people and the environment, and to open the door for citizens, residents, and tourists to explore the Kingdom's unique geographical and biological diversity. The relevant authorities are working to transform protected areas from completely closed zones into regulated tourist destinations that contribute to the national economy without harming sensitive ecosystems.
Unique biodiversity in the available reserves
The new season includes a distinctive list of reserves representing the Kingdom's diverse terrain, providing multiple options for campers:
- Ibex Reserve: Located south of Riyadh, it is characterized by its rugged mountainous nature and is considered the home of the Arabian ibex.
- Farasan Islands Reserve: Offers a unique coastal experience amidst the marine biodiversity and mangrove trees of the Jazan region.
- Uruq Bani Ma'arid Reserve: Located on the western edge of the Empty Quarter, it allows visitors to experience camping amidst the sand dunes and to see the Arabian oryx.
- Rida Reserve: It is characterized by its dense forests in the Asir region and its plant diversity.
- Nafud Al-Areeq Reserve and Imam Saud bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve: They offer an authentic desert experience that reflects the beauty of the Arabian desert.
Booking mechanism via the “Fitri” platform and environmental controls
The National Center for Wildlife Development explained that those wishing to participate in this experience can reserve their sites and obtain the necessary permits electronically through the “Fitri” platform. The platform allows users to browse available sites and review all terms and conditions that ensure visitor safety and environmental protection. These regulations include strict instructions regarding waste disposal, fires only in designated areas, and the avoidance of harming wildlife or vegetation, to guarantee that these areas remain pristine for future generations.
Economic and social impact
Beyond its recreational aspect, the camping season carries significant developmental dimensions. It contributes to the development of local communities surrounding nature reserves by creating seasonal employment opportunities and marketing local products, thus enhancing the economic returns of ecotourism. The season also aims to raise environmental awareness within the community, as visitors become partners in nature conservation through responsible camping practices, thereby reinforcing a culture of environmental preservation as part of the national identity.
