Al-Jawf weather: Active winds and dust in Sakaka and the region's governorates

The National Center for Meteorology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia issued today an important alert regarding the expected weather conditions in the Al-Jawf region, warning of weather fluctuations including active winds and dust storms, which calls for caution and vigilance on the part of citizens and residents in the region.
Weather details and affected areas
The center explained in its daily report that the weather conditions will directly affect the city of Sakaka, in addition to three other major governorates in the region: Dumat al-Jandal, Tabarjal, and Qurayyat. According to forecasts from the early warning system, these conditions are expected to persist until 1:00 AM tomorrow, Wednesday, requiring continuous monitoring of weather updates in the coming hours.
Forecasts indicate that these active winds will stir up dust, leading to near-zero horizontal visibility, with expected visibility ranging between 1 and 3 kilometers. This phenomenon is common in the northern regions of the Kingdom during seasonal transitions, although its intensity can vary and significantly impact daily life.
Weather effects on traffic safety and public health
These warnings are of paramount importance given the region's geography; Al-Jawf is connected by a vital and open network of international and local roads, making highways susceptible to sudden drops in visibility due to dust and sandstorms. Authorities, such as Civil Defense and Highway Patrol, typically urge drivers to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and use hazard lights when necessary to avoid traffic accidents that may result from poor visibility.
From a health perspective, experts and doctors recommend that during these conditions, respiratory patients, asthma sufferers, the elderly, and children should stay indoors as much as possible, avoid direct exposure to dust, and use medical masks when going out when necessary, in order to avoid health complications that may be caused by fine particles suspended in the air.
The geographical and climatic context of the Al-Jawf region
The Al-Jawf region is distinguished by its strategic location in the north of the Kingdom and its continental desert climate, which makes it susceptible to active surface winds, especially during periods of atmospheric pressure fluctuations. Al-Jawf is considered the Kingdom's "breadbasket" and its agricultural capital, particularly in the production of olives and dates. Therefore, monitoring weather conditions is important not only for residents in terms of transportation but also for farmers who are keen to protect their crops and agricultural equipment from the effects of strong winds.
This alert comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the National Center for Meteorology to raise the level of weather awareness, provide accurate and up-to-date information that contributes to protecting lives and property, and enhancing public safety in all regions of the Kingdom.
