Today's weather in Saudi Arabia: Temperatures and areas of rainfall

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued weather , revealing significant variations in temperatures and weather phenomena affecting different regions of the Kingdom on Sunday. This statement comes as part of the ongoing monitoring of weather conditions to ensure the safety of citizens and residents and to advise them to take precautions while traveling.

Temperature variations and weather phenomena

The report explained that the Kingdom is experiencing great climatic diversity today, as Makkah recorded the highest maximum temperatures at 31 degrees Celsius, reflecting the relatively warm weather in the western region, while the northern and central regions recorded a noticeable decrease, as the minimum temperature in Hail and Tarif reached only 4 degrees Celsius, and in Al-Soudah it reached one degree Celsius, which calls for wearing heavy winter clothes in those areas.

Regarding weather phenomena, the center noted the formation of dust storms that are reducing horizontal visibility in several areas, including Dammam, Medina, and Jeddah, in addition to the capital, Riyadh, which is experiencing generally clear skies. Meanwhile, the southwestern highlands, such as Abha, Al-Baha, and Taif, are affected by light rain that may help to moderate the weather, while fog covers areas along the northern border, such as Arar, Sakaka, and Qurayyat, requiring extreme caution from drivers on highways.

The geographical and climatic context of the Kingdom

Saudi Arabia's vast size, resembling a miniature continent, results in a wide variety of weather patterns. While coastal areas like Jeddah and Jazan enjoy high humidity and warm temperatures, the interior and northern regions experience dry and cold conditions. These weather fluctuations are a defining characteristic of the transitional period between seasons, a time when surface winds stir up dust and sand, locally known as "al-Awaliq," which often affects those with respiratory illnesses.

The importance of following weather reports

These daily reports are of paramount importance, not only for determining the appropriate type of clothing, but also for their direct impact on daily activities and land and air traffic. Authorities consistently emphasize the need to heed early warnings, particularly in cases of dense fog or rain that could lead to flash floods in valleys, to ensure public safety.
