Weather in Saudi Arabia: Dammam 18 degrees Celsius and lows in other cities of the Kingdom

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia revealed details of the minimum temperatures recorded in various regions and cities of the Kingdom on Thursday night/Friday morning. The data showed a noticeable variation in weather conditions between the coastal, central, northern, and mountainous regions. The city of Dammam recorded a low of 18 degrees Celsius, reflecting relatively mild weather in the Eastern Province compared to some northern areas, which have begun to experience a significant drop in temperatures.

Details of minimum temperatures in the cities of the Kingdom

According to the report issued, the minimum temperatures recorded were as follows, with the northern regions and highlands topping the list of the coldest areas:

  • In the Eastern and Central regions, Dammam recorded 18 degrees Celsius, Riyadh 17 degrees, while Al-Ahsa and Hafr Al-Batin also recorded 17 degrees. In Al-Qassim, Buraidah recorded 15 degrees Celsius.
  • Western and coastal regions: Mecca and Jeddah maintained warm weather, each recording 22 degrees Celsius, while Medina recorded 17 degrees and Yanbu 19 degrees. Jazan recorded the highest minimum temperature on the list at 24 degrees Celsius.
  • Northern regions: A sharp drop in temperatures was observed in Al-Qurayyat and Tarif, which recorded only 7 degrees Celsius, Tabuk 11 degrees, and Arar 13 degrees.
  • Southern Highlands: Al-Soudah recorded the lowest temperature on the list at 6 degrees Celsius, while Abha and Al-Baha recorded 11 degrees Celsius.

Climatic and geographical diversity in the Kingdom

This report reflects the great geographical and climatic diversity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While coastal areas such as Jeddah, Jazan, and Dammam experience moderate to warm temperatures due to the influence of water bodies and humidity, northern areas such as Tarif and Qurayyat are directly affected by cold air masses coming from the north, causing them to record the lowest temperatures, especially during the night and early morning hours.

On the other hand, topography plays a pivotal role in shaping weather patterns, with temperatures naturally lower in mountainous regions like As-Soudah, Abha, and Al-Baha, making them distinctive tourist destinations even during seasonal transitions. This variation offers residents and visitors a wide range of options for enjoying the climate, whether they prefer the cooler weather in the mountains and north or the milder conditions along the coast.

The importance of the National Center for Meteorology's reports

These daily reports are of paramount importance to citizens and residents, aiding in daily planning and choosing appropriate clothing, especially during transitional weather patterns. This data is also crucial for farmers to protect their crops from potential frost in northern regions, and for highway travelers to take necessary precautions. With the start of the camping season, many rely on this information to identify suitable camping destinations, avoiding areas with extreme cold or potentially severe weather.
