Today's weather in Saudi Arabia: Lower temperatures, dust, and rain

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily report on weather conditions on Wednesday in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, indicating significant weather fluctuations characterized by a decrease in temperatures and surface wind activity.
Climate context and seasonal variations
These forecasts come within the context of the usual weather changes the Kingdom experiences during this period, as the region is affected by cold air masses coming from the north, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. The Kingdom's geographical nature, with its vast desert areas, plays a major role in the rapid impact of active winds, which often stir up dust and sand, necessitating continuous monitoring of weather forecasts to ensure public safety.
Weather details for the regions
The weather report indicated that the Kingdom will experience a drop in temperatures accompanied by active surface winds that will stir up dust and sand, leading to reduced horizontal visibility. This effect will be particularly concentrated in parts of the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, Northern Borders, Hail, and Madinah .
In contrast, the meteorological department forecasts partly to mostly cloudy skies, with a chance of light rain in parts of Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir, and Jazan regions, extending to parts of northern and eastern Saudi Arabia. The center also warned of the possibility of fog forming during the night and early morning hours in the highlands of western and southwestern Saudi Arabia, which could affect traffic on mountain roads.
The state of the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf
Regarding the sea conditions, the Red Sea northwesterly to northerly surface winds in the northern and central parts, and southeasterly to southerly winds in the southern part, with speeds ranging from 25 to 45 km/h, with wave heights reaching two and a half meters, making the sea state moderate to rough.
As for the Arabian Gulf , the winds there change in the evening from southeasterly to northwesterly, and their speed may reach 50 km/h with the formation of rain-bearing thunderclouds, which raises the wave to two and a half meters, and makes the sea turbulent at times.
Special alerts for the Eastern Province
The National Center for Meteorology issued specific warnings for the Eastern Province, cautioning against the presence of dust and suspended particles that could reduce visibility. The warnings included:
- Dust storms: Starting from 11 am until 7 pm, affecting Al-Khafji, Al-Nairiyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya, with visibility reduced to (3-5) kilometers.
- Dust storms: These include Hafr Al-Batin, Al-Nairiyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya, and will begin from 10 am until 7 pm, accompanied by active winds and near-zero horizontal visibility (1-3) kilometers.
These warnings are of great importance to drivers and highway users, as well as to respiratory patients who are advised to take the necessary precautions to avoid the effects of dust.
