Meteorology: Strong winds in the Eastern Province and moderate rain in Asir

The National Center for Meteorology issued important weather alerts today regarding the weather conditions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, indicating significant weather fluctuations including surface wind activity in the Eastern Province and varying levels of rainfall in the Asir highlands, as part of its ongoing monitoring of climate changes in various regions of the Kingdom.
Eastern Province weather details
In an official statement, the National Center for Meteorology warned residents and visitors of the Eastern Province of strong winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 49 kilometers per hour. The center explained that this weather condition would affect a large number of provinces and major cities, including Dammam, Dhahran, Khobar, Jubail, Qatif, Ras Tanura, Khafji, Abqaiq, Al-Ahsa, and the Al-Udayd border crossing.
The center warned that these strong winds will stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility, especially on highways and in open areas, in addition to causing a noticeable increase in sea waves along coastal areas. The report indicated that this weather condition will continue, God willing, until 5:00 PM today.
Rain and weather phenomena in Asir
On the other side of the Kingdom, specifically in the southwestern highlands, the center issued a weather alert for the Asir region. The center predicted moderate rainfall, which could develop into hail and flash floods in some valleys and ravines.
The weather system in Asir includes the city of Abha and the governorate of Khamis Mushait, where rain is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, near-zero visibility, and thunderstorms. The center indicated that this weather system will end at 7:00 PM today.
The importance of warnings and safety guidelines
These warnings are of paramount importance given the nature of the affected areas. The Eastern Province is a vital industrial and commercial hub, and transportation within it requires extreme caution during winds and dust storms to ensure the safety of those using coastal and highway roads. Conversely, the Asir region is characterized by its rugged mountainous terrain, making even moderate rainfall a potential cause of flash floods, thus necessitating vigilance and caution.
In this context, the relevant authorities and civil defense forces usually call in such circumstances for the necessity of adhering to safety instructions, staying away from flood channels and valleys in rainy areas, and exercising caution while driving in areas experiencing reduced visibility due to dust or fog, to ensure the safety of lives and property.
It is worth noting that the National Center for Meteorology relies in its reports on the latest weather monitoring and satellite technologies to provide accurate and up-to-date information, with the aim of raising the level of preparedness of government agencies and citizens to deal with various climatic conditions.
