Today's weather: Active winds and dense fog across parts of the Kingdom

The National Center for Meteorology issued its daily report on weather conditions on Monday in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, indicating the continuation of weather fluctuations characterized by active wind movement and a decrease in horizontal visibility in some areas, and the formation of fog in other areas, which calls for caution and vigilance by citizens and residents.

Weather conditions and active winds details

The report indicated that the impact of active winds stirring up dust and sand continues, limiting horizontal visibility, particularly in parts of the Al-Jawf and Northern Borders . This situation is part of the usual weather fluctuations at this time of year, with surface air currents stirring up sand in open and desert areas.

Fog formation chances and safety alerts

Conversely, the center indicated that the possibility of fog , which could lead to near-zero visibility, remains in parts of the Eastern Province . The fog's effects also extend to the highlands and coastal areas of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah . Drivers on highways in these regions are advised to adhere to traffic regulations, use fog lights, and reduce their speed to ensure their safety.

The climatic and geographical context of the Kingdom

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by a wide climatic diversity due to its vast geographical area and varied topography, ranging from deserts to highlands and coasts. These weather phenomena, such as dust storms (known locally as "Sarayat" or "Bawarih" depending on the season) and fog formation in the highlands and along the eastern coast, are part of the region's climatic dynamics. The National Center of Meteorology's reports play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety and supporting vital sectors like transportation and agriculture through early warning of these events.

Red Sea situation

Regarding the Red Sea, the report indicated that surface winds will be northwesterly to northeasterly in the northern and central parts at speeds of 10-25 km/h, while in the southern part they will be southeasterly to southwesterly at speeds of 12-35 km/h, potentially reaching 42 km/h towards the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter in the northern and central parts, and from half a meter to one and a half meters in the southern part, resulting in calm sea conditions in the north and central regions, and light to moderate conditions in the south.
