Rain in Mecca and Asir: Weather alerts and forecasts for today

The National Center for Meteorology issued today important weather alerts regarding the weather conditions in the Makkah and Asir regions, indicating the continuation of weather fluctuations and varying levels of rainfall until the early evening hours, which calls for caution and vigilance on the part of citizens, residents and highway users.

Weather details in the Asir region

The center explained in its daily report that the Asir region is experiencing moderate rainfall , accompanied by a number of influential weather phenomena, including high-speed winds that stir up dust and sand, near-zero horizontal visibility, in addition to hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, and thunderstorms.

The center identified the affected areas as the city of Abha and the governorates of Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rafidah, confirming that the rainy conditions would continue, God willing, until 7:00 PM. Thanks to its mountainous terrain and the Sarawat Mountains, the Asir region is among the areas most frequently affected by rainfall in the Kingdom. The topography contributes to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and the resulting seasonal rains, which enhance the region's natural beauty but require extreme caution while driving.

Rainfall conditions in the Makkah region

In a related development, the National Center for Meteorology warned of light rain in parts of the Makkah region, specifically the governorates of Rahat and Madrakah. The report indicated that the accompanying effects include increased surface wind activity, reduced horizontal visibility, and the possibility of thunderstorms. This weather pattern is expected to continue until 8:00 PM.

The importance of adhering to safety guidelines

These alerts are part of the vital role played by the National Center of Meteorology in ensuring the safety of lives and property through early monitoring of weather phenomena using the latest technologies and satellites. Such weather events typically coincide with warnings from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, which consistently emphasizes the need to stay away from water accumulations, valleys, and dams during rainfall, and to avoid attempting to cross floodwaters, no matter how low the water level may seem.

Drivers in the affected areas are advised to exercise extreme caution due to slippery roads and reduced visibility, to maintain safe distances between vehicles, and to follow official weather bulletins regularly to stay informed about weather developments.
