Al-Qurayyat weather: Frost warning and temperatures as low as -3 degrees Celsius

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important and urgent warning to the residents of Al-Qurayyat Governorate in the Al-Jawf region, warning of a severe cold wave that will hit the region, where temperatures are expected to drop significantly to freezing levels and below.
Weather details in Al Qurayyat
The center explained in its official report that Al-Qurayyat Governorate will be affected by a strong cold wave, with its direct effects beginning at dawn on Sunday. Meteorological forecasts indicate a sharp drop in temperatures ranging from 0°C to -3°C, creating conditions conducive to frost and freezing water in open areas.
The center specified the time period for this weather condition, indicating that it will begin - God willing - from 2:00 AM and continue until 8:00 AM on Sunday, which is the period in which temperatures will be at their lowest.
The nature of the climate of Al-Qurayyat and polar waves
This cold wave comes in the context of the geographical location of Al-Qurayyat Governorate, situated in the far north of Saudi Arabia and considered the country's northern gateway. Historically, Al-Qurayyat is known for its continental desert climate, experiencing harsh winters due to its direct exposure to polar air masses originating from Siberia and Eastern Europe via the Levant.
Recording sub-zero temperatures is a frequent occurrence during the harsh winter seasons in the northern regions of the Kingdom, which always necessitates taking the necessary precautions by the population and the concerned authorities.
Safety recommendations and guidelines
Due to temperatures dropping to freezing levels and frost formation, weather and safety experts advise following these guidelines:
- Wearing heavy winter clothes: especially for children and the elderly when going out in the early morning hours.
- Caution when driving: frost causes vehicles to slip on the roads, in addition to the possibility of fog forming which limits horizontal visibility.
- Use heating appliances safely: Ensure proper ventilation when using coal or kerosene heaters to avoid suffocation, and check the electrical wiring of electric heaters.
- Protecting crops and livestock: Farmers and livestock breeders in Al-Qurayyat are urged to take the necessary measures to protect their crops and livestock from frost waves that may harm the agricultural sector.
Weather conditions across the Kingdom
In a related context, the National Center for Meteorology had previously indicated in a report that the impact of the cold air masses is not limited to Al-Qurayyat alone, but extends to include large parts of the Tabuk, Northern Borders, and Al-Jawf regions. The center predicted active surface winds stirring up dust and sand, with the possibility of dense fog forming during the night and early morning hours in parts of 11 administrative regions of the Kingdom, necessitating continuous monitoring of weather forecasts.
