Saudi Arabia weather: Jazan rains and snow in Targina, Tabuk

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily report on the expected weather conditions, warning residents and visitors of the Jazan and Tabuk regions of weather fluctuations ranging from thunderstorms to snowfall, in a scene that reflects the climatic and geographical diversity that characterizes the Kingdom during this time of year.
Weather conditions in the Jazan region
The center explained in its alert that the Jazan region is experiencing light rainfall accompanied by active winds that may stir up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility, in addition to the possibility of thunderstorms. This weather condition includes a number of mountainous and coastal governorates, including: Al-Harath, Al-Dayer Bani Malik, Al-Raith, Al-Ardah, Al-Aydabi, Fifa, and Haroub. The center indicated that this rainy weather will continue, God willing, until 8:00 PM today, necessitating caution while driving on winding mountain roads.
Snow in Trogina and rain in Tabuk
In the northwest of the Kingdom, specifically in the Tabuk region, the highlands of Tarjaneh were blanketed in snow on Wednesday, coinciding with light rain, creating a distinct winter scene in the area, which is a key part of the futuristic NEOM project. Other areas in the region, such as Bir Ibn Hirmas, Al-Uyaynah, Halat Ammar, Shaqri, and their surrounding areas, also experienced light to moderate rainfall, promising a bountiful spring season in these desert regions.
Geographical and climatic context
These weather fluctuations reflect the diverse topography of the Kingdom. The Jazan region, with its towering Sarawat Mountains, acts as a barrier against humid winds coming from the Red Sea, making it prone to seasonal rains and frequent thunderstorms. In contrast, the Tabuk region, located in the far north, is the primary gateway for cold air masses from the north of the continent, which explains the lower temperatures and snowfall in its high mountains, such as the Al-Lawz and Tarjana mountains.
The importance of follow-up and safety guidelines
Weather experts and relevant authorities emphasize the importance of following the latest weather bulletins issued by the National Center of Meteorology, especially given the rapid fluctuations in weather conditions. The General Directorate of Civil Defense urges citizens and residents to stay away from valleys and flood channels during rainfall and to exercise caution while driving in areas experiencing fog or dust storms, in order to protect lives and property.
