Dhahran Municipality plants 111,000 flowers to enhance quality of life

In its ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and enhance the city's overall appearance, the Dhahran Municipality significantly intensified its field operations recently, implementing a wide range of landscaping, maintenance, and beautification projects. These efforts included planting over 111,000 flowers and rehabilitating vast green spaces, a strategic step aimed at raising the quality of life and creating a healthy, safe, and attractive environment for both residents and visitors.
National context and green initiatives
These initiatives in Dhahran align with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's broader national objectives, particularly the Saudi Green Initiative launched by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, which aims to increase vegetation cover, reduce carbon emissions, and combat pollution and desertification. Dhahran holds special significance in this context, given its status as a global energy hub. Transforming it into a green and environmentally friendly city serves as a model for balancing industrial development with environmental sustainability, and is a key contributor to achieving the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals related to the Quality of Life Program.
Figures and statistics reflect the scale of the achievement
The mayor of Dhahran, Engineer Faisal Al-Qahtani, revealed details of the work completed during the past month, which included planting 550 shade trees in strategic locations and main axes, in addition to planting 111,500 seasonal flowers of various colors to give a vibrant aesthetic character to the city’s streets, public gardens and open squares.
The efforts were not limited to new plantings, but also included the planting of green spaces and ground cover covering an area exceeding 100,200 square meters. In parallel, specialized teams carried out regular maintenance and comprehensive rehabilitation of existing grass areas totaling 177,000 square meters, to ensure their freshness and sustainability throughout the year, especially given the fluctuating weather conditions.
Technical standards and sustainable environmental impact
The field teams focused heavily on the technical and coordination aspects to ensure the visual harmony of the city, where 4,120 trees were trimmed and arranged according to precise technical and engineering standards, with damaged trees being treated to improve the efficiency of the vegetation cover.
Engineer Al-Qahtani emphasized that these works stem from the municipality’s strategy to create a healthy urban environment, as these green spaces play a pivotal role in purifying the air, reducing temperatures (reducing the heat island effect), and providing attractive natural outlets for recreational and community activities, which positively impacts the public and psychological health of the population.
Call for community participation
In closing, the Dhahran Municipality called on all residents to activate community partnership and national spirit by preserving these gains and public property, and to immediately report any observations or violations that may harm the vegetation cover through the unified reporting center 940, to ensure the continuity of the city’s beauty and splendor.
