Eastern Province weather today: Active winds and dust in Dammam and 8 governorates

The National Center for Meteorology issued an important weather alert today for the Eastern Province, warning of strong winds that could directly impact daily life and traffic in several major cities and governorates. The alert covers the cities of Dammam and Dhahran, as well as the governorates of Khobar, Jubail, Ras Tanura, Qatif, Abqaiq, Al-Ahsa, and others.
Weather details for the Eastern Province
The center explained in its report that surface wind speeds will range between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour, a speed sufficient to stir up dust and sand, especially in open areas and on highways connecting the region's governorates. These weather conditions have caused a significant decrease in horizontal visibility, dropping to between 3 and 5 kilometers. The center indicated that this weather pattern will continue, God willing, until 6:00 PM today.
The importance of caution and the effects of the weather
These warnings are particularly important given the geographical nature of the Eastern Province, where open desert areas abound along major highways and roads. Active winds typically cause sand to drift and stir up dense dust, requiring drivers to exercise extreme caution, avoid high speeds, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles to prevent traffic accidents caused by sudden loss of visibility. Doctors and specialists also advise those with respiratory conditions and asthma to avoid direct exposure to dust in such weather to protect their health.
Weather conditions in the rest of the Kingdom
In a related development concerning the general weather conditions in the Kingdom today, Monday, the National Center for Meteorology predicted a chance of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds in parts of several regions, including Al-Baha and Makkah, extending to the southern parts of the Madinah highlands. These weather fluctuations are part of the transitional weather patterns that the Kingdom experiences at this time of year.
Regarding temperatures, forecasts indicate continued cold to very cold weather across parts of the northern regions, specifically in Hail, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders, extending to the northern parts of the Eastern Province. This drop in temperatures will be accompanied by continued active winds stirring up dust and sand, the effects of which may extend to parts of Tabuk, Madinah, and Makkah, as well as the eastern parts of the southwestern highlands of the Kingdom.
