Eastern Province weather today: Active winds, dust, and weather alerts

The National Center for Meteorology issued today an important and urgent warning to the residents of the Eastern Province, warning of an unstable weather condition consisting of active winds that directly affect the cities of Dammam and Dhahran, and extend to include a large number of vital governorates in the region.
Weather details for the Eastern Province
The center explained in its report that the weather conditions include the governorates of Al-Khobar, Jubail, Ras Tanura, Qatif, Abqaiq, and Al-Ahsa, in addition to Al-Udayd Governorate. Forecasts indicate that wind speeds will range between 40 and 49 kilometers per hour. These active winds will not only be fleeting, but their direct effects have also stirred up dust and sand, especially in open areas and on the highways connecting these governorates, leading to a significant decrease in horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. The center stated that this condition will continue, God willing, until 6:00 PM today.
Weather conditions in the rest of the Kingdom
In a related context, and to monitor the overall weather situation in the Kingdom, the National Center for Meteorology, in its weather report for today, Monday, predicted that the chance of thunderstorms accompanied by active winds remains high in parts of the Al-Baha and Makkah regions, and this weather pattern may extend to include the southern parts of the Madinah highlands. Conversely, cold to very cold weather will continue in the northern regions, specifically in parts of Hail, Al-Jawf, and the Northern Borders, extending to the northern parts of the Eastern Province.
The importance of warnings and their impact on public safety
These warnings are of paramount importance given the geographical and economic nature of the Eastern Province, the Kingdom's industrial heartland. Strong winds and dense dust storms could disrupt land and sea transport, particularly in coastal cities like Jubail, Ras Tanura, and Dammam, which house vital ports and oil facilities. Therefore, drivers on highways are advised to exercise extreme caution, maintain safe distances, and use hazard lights when visibility is poor.
Health and environmental tips
From a health perspective, experts always recommend taking preventative measures in such dusty conditions, especially for those with respiratory illnesses, asthma, the elderly, and children, by avoiding direct exposure to dust and staying indoors as much as possible. These weather fluctuations are a natural part of the Kingdom's climate during transitional periods, as different air masses interact, necessitating continuous monitoring of official weather forecasts to ensure everyone's safety.
